Senate reaches deal to avoid government shutdown, Schumer announces
Source: NBC News
The bill will ensure the federal government remains open until December.
WASHINGTON Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Wednesday that senators have reached a deal on a stopgap government funding measure to prevent a shutdown.
"We are ready to move forward," Schumer said on the Senate floor. "We have an agreement on.. the continuing resolution, to prevent a government shutdown and we should be voting on that tomorrow morning," Schumer said on the Senate floor.
Without passing the bill, the federal government would face a shutdown after the calendar turns to Friday. The deal announced by Schumer keeps the government open through Dec. 3.
The House passed a government funding bill last week on a party-line vote of 220-211.

(42,862 posts)It's a backhanded and passive-aggressive way of insinuating one's belief that our Democratic leadership are idiots and fools. What useful purpose does it serve? It's just another example of how people are oddly willing to do and say things that create an atmosphere of fear and hopelessness and negativity. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

Republicans get to do it again in December, away from the Debt Limit issue and the $ 1 Trillion and $ 3.5 Trillion bill fight.

As long as something bigger isnt attached to it
a CR means that a Democratic budget has not been passed.
Theyll happily do it all the way through 2022 if they can.
