London police officer Wayne Couzens gets life sentence without parole for Sarah Everard murder

LONDON — Wayne Couzens, the London police officer who strangled Sarah Everard with his police belt after falsely arresting her for breaking lockdown rules, was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison with no prospect of parole.

Judge Adrian Fulford told Old Bailey court in central London that Couzens would be “imprisoned for life and that the tariff is a whole life order,” the most serious punishment he could issue. It would mean that, in all likelihood, Couzens would die in prison.

“You have eroded the confidence the public are entitled to have in the police forces of England and Wales,” said Fulford, who made Couzens stand in court when he read out his sentence.

“It is critical that every subject in this country can trust police officers.”

He added that he had also “very considerably” added to the sense of insecurity for those who live in cities “particularly women when traveling by themselves, and especially at night.”

Basically tricked into handcuffs and no way out. I know all murders suck and are terrifying however this ranks up there in the top 10 probably. Total helplessness with a monster. Used his badge and authority to trick her into handcuffs and the car.
Then tortured, raped, killed her. (The strangling with the belt was probably done in a tortuous, not quick, way.)

14. Hi. I gave it some thought before I started the thread.

Where's the "national interest" in a story from London? I understand.

I posted the story due to similarities to accounts of police misconduct in the U.S. Had it not been for the similarities, I would not have put the story in LBN.
