Biden's vaccine mandate will further disrupt supply chains, Raytheon CEO says
Source: CNN
The Biden administration's Covid-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors will further disrupt already stressed-out supply chains, Raytheon Technologies warned Tuesday.
Raytheon, a conglomerate that makes jet engines, missiles and drones, joins a growing list of business groups expressing concern about the December 8 deadline for employees of federal contractors to get vaccinated.
"We certainly expect that there will be some disruption in both the supply chain and with our customers as a result of this," Raytheon CEO Gregory Hayes warned during a conference call with analysts Tuesday. "But we're going to work our way through it."
Hayes pointed to a range of problems that are scrambling supply chains right now, including shortages of components and materials as well as rising prices for aluminum and steel.

Translated, "I'm worried as fuck that my company won't get as many lucrative government contracts if my employees don't want to get vaccinated."

"It's just harder to get material in the door on time. We're also seeing, of course, labor shortages in our supply chain, which is also slowing down input," Hayes said. "I think that's going to be a continuing problem into next year. And the vaccine mandate is probably not going to help that."
However, Raytheon sees that its business can benefit from from the vaccine mandate.
"Higher vaccination rates will continue to build confidence in the safety of air travel going forward," Neil Mitchell, Raytheon's chief financial officer, said during the call.
It sounds like Raytheon thinks the mandate is good for its business but is worried about employees separating from its parts suppliers (whether that be voluntarily or involuntarily) due to the mandate.

(13,058 posts)President Biden is working on the temporary supply chain issues that we are facing. And it's a global problem being faced by most industrialized countries. But we should not let supply chain issues interfere with our life saving quest to get e everybody vaccinated.

Do you whine to your board when production demands are not met?
Fuck you and your supply chain threats. Just do it.

(1,654 posts)Every time these supply chain problems/blame come up, the articles should also mention the real reason for this whole supply chain problem crap. BIG BUSINESS in the in the last at least quarter century has emphasized "Just in time" supply. Don't order items/components, whatever until just before you need them. Why pay for something before it's needed on the assembly line/store, etc? Why have a warehouse for inventory you don't need yet? Heaven forbid you should have anything on hand until you're ready to use it. This is what business schools have gradually all been teaching in the last half century. The world is one big market and it's usually stable.
Why even have factories in the US? Get everything made overseas at the cheapest place. We can always get it in time for when it's needed on site. Close down most of the factories and ship them to China, or wherever. The oil price disruption after hurricanes and other disasters hasn't taught other businesses any problems because they thought that's just oil.
Come a worldwide disaster like a pandemic and you don't need the same things, or you need more of one thing and way less of another until you will need them. But even when you want them, they're stuck somewhere else mixed in with things that aren't needed (at least by you), but somebody ordered them but there are no trucks to transport them because no drivers who want to paid better and on and on.
So you're a CEO and you have to blame somebody, not you. So Joe Biden's vaccine mandate is maybe to blame, but you acknowledge the mandate is also a good thing. So don't blame me. I'm just doing the predatory things I was taught in business school, especially looking out for myself.

We need to win this midterm election by a substantial margin and then appoint an independent commission to investigate the hell out of the military industrial cabal and the enablers.
