Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman resigns to take election-security post

Source: Seattle Times

OLYMPIA — Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman on Tuesday announced her resignation to take a key election-security position in President Joe Biden’s administration.

Wyman, the only statewide elected Republican, will serve as the senior election security lead for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), according to a statement from her office.

CISA is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and works on cyber issues, infrastructure and election security.

Wyman’s last day as secretary of state will be Nov. 19.

If the Republicans weren't bat shit nuts I could vote for her. In all fairness she has been making statements about leaving that party and has been highly critical of their election tampering claims. WA is all vote by mail and we can check on line to make sure our ballots have been received and counted. In addition if there is a concern about a ballot you are contacted by phone or email. That happened with my husband a few years ago as his signature is always illegible. She has been fair and has done a good job.

From Wikipedia:
Kimberley Marie Wyman is an American politician who is the 15th and current Secretary of State of Washington, elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020. She is the only Republican statewide elected official in Washington and the entire mainland West Coast.

-------------------

She has already been a part of a CISA council. (And, even though she's registered as a repuke, has demonstrated a great deal of integrity and fairness.) She'll be an excellent addition to President Biden's administration.

Here's a .pdf of her bio - her background and extensive experience are outstanding:

The MAGAts hate her, since she came out against their god-emperor's BS. That makes her, in their eyes, a 'deep-state RINO'.

While I normally would flatly state that ANY repuke is a bad choice, it turns out she may be a rare exception, based on her observed actions and performance.

because I'm a yellow dog dem and I'd sooner gouge my eyes out than vote GQP, but she is by far the best repuke official in the state.

her taking this position with CISA will do exactly NOTHING to convince the traitor party to stop the Big Lie.

In fact I was pissed when she won re-election over a good Dem candidate. I remember her dalliance with the Kobach voter fraud commission back in 2017, but she corrected pretty quickly. And I don't know how good an idea this is, guess we'll find out.

Does Inslee get to select her replacement?

Inslee does get to name a temp successor, but there will be a new election in 2022 for a permanent replacement. If Inslee makes a good replacement choice, it's a prime opportunity for an incumbent Democrat to win that seat through 2026.
