Pelosi tells Democratic caucus: Don't "embarrass" the President
Source: CNN
She also said she would put the infrastructure bill on the floor today and hold the vote open to get the bill through.
When Rep. Jan Schakowsky, a Democrat from Illinois, asked about key moderates Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, she said take the President at his word he will get the larger bill through.
A member of Congress in the room, representing a Midwestern district, tells CNN the President explicitly made the point that the Democratic majorities hinge on what happens over the next week. It was not about the race in Virginia, which some members have dismissed the importance of, but rather the midterm elections.

Sinema would probably be happy if the BBB bill went away. Once the hostage is released there is no guarantee the BBB bill will be passed anytime soon.

Budi
(15,325 posts)Medicare coverage is an issue all its own & really deserves more debate & focus to improve it completely.
Including the matter of solvency & keeping it out of potential privitazation.
It's far more than just a quick fix.

(1,699 posts)I hear that Pelosi wants to vote on the 'bipartisan/corporate' bill first. I have no doubt if they do this the social infrastructure bill is dead. I don't trust any assurances coming from Manchin or Sinema they will say what ever it takes to pass their bill and they will torpedo the social bill. If the social bill is no put up first real progressives should vote against it.
The Mouth
(3,150 posts)Anyone voting 'no' needs a MAGA tattoo and to be kicked out of the party (as we will be utterly f**ked in 2022 if it doesn't pass).
Time to draw a line. Posturing and pandering is fine, but there needs to be consequences, and severe ones for not following the party line when it is all on the line.
I'd like to see a BIG pool of potential money, and support established to primary any D 'no' votes; no exception, no exemptions, no exclusions, vote 'No' and President Obama, Clinton and whoever else will be brining themselves and millions to your primary opponent next year.

(3,150 posts)But safe or not, it's time to hold that sword of Damocles over some heads. Yeah, I mean Manchin is, actually, kind of a miracle, a Democrat in that seat, but the folks in the House? We need a bit of stick here, I think(I'm sure there are carrots aplenty for those waffling).

If it gets voted down in the House it will not be because of President Biden or Senators Manchin or Sinema.

(3,164 posts)...inaction will cost us the Congress and Presidency...I firmly believe a weak bill will do that in spades and sow irreparable divisions within the Party making 2022/2024 impossible...
...the case should be made that we're not going to get this bill done right now because of the intransigence of manchin and sinema...the Party should then unify on expedited 1/6 investigations to be able to attack and discredit pukes, their Party, their leaders in preparation for 2022/2024...
...with a strong reminder that this was a bad 50/50 Congress and that our legislation and goals were made impossible by conservatives, big money interests and opposing pukes, the voters will understand...
...we'll convince the American worker that if he/she ever wants to see this much needed legislation again, they'll have it guaranteed by supporting us with a bigger majority in Congress not by electing billionaire-sucking pukes...
...I heard tonight on the news that family leave was out of the bill...bad, very bad
...we're all in this together...I'm willing to give up my Medicare, vision, dental and hearing (which I truly need) if we don't get meaningful family leave or any other major provision...
