Obama clings to slim lead in Virginia, according to poll
Source: Washington Post
President Obama is clinging to a slender four-point lead over Republican Mitt Romney in Virginia as both sides ramp up already aggressive campaigns in the crucial battleground state, according to a new Washington Post poll.
Obama outpolled Romney, 51 to 47 percent, among likely Virginia voters, although he lost the clearer 52-to-44 percent advantage he held in mid-September.
Unlike in national polls, Obama still has an edge when Virginia voters are asked who better understands their financial problems, and he has not fallen behind a surging Romney on the question of who would better handle the national economy. Nor has Obama lost significant ground among self-identified independents in Virginia, as he has nationally. . .
Perhaps the polls most striking insight concerns the many voters the two campaigns have contacted in Virginia this fall. A staggering 44 percent of likely voters polled said they had been contacted by the Obama campaign; 41 percent said the same of Romneys. More than one in four of had heard from both campaigns.

Romney cannot win the election if the President's lead holds in Ohio and Virginia.

(3,166 posts)If Obama was leading NY by +4 THAT would be slender (he's leading by 29% in NY by the way)
Obama 51-47% in Virginia at this late stage is damn impressive..

(119 posts)And worse your opponent is more trusted on Middle Class and better for jobs & the economy.
That's RMoney's problem in VA, OH, WI & NV, why he'll never win those states but Obama can still convince Fl how bad Myth would be for them & the US.

(22,000 posts)It looks like the bottom part could hit NoVa. While I sure don't want anyone to be in danger, I worry about the swing states having good weather. NH might really be in trouble.

(22,000 posts)I'll be watching closely from Korea as I usually do. We get our share of typhoons here so I have a little bit of an idea what they are like. We don't get them near as bad as the ones that hit the Southern and East coast of the US though. I grew up in Oregon so I hadn't been through one until I came here.

(9,314 posts)we had some horrendous snow storms....we were pretty hardy. Just dug our cars out and went about our business. I live in rural VA now in the mountains and we have to be prepared for stuff like this. The last storm that hit here we went out that night in the 4 wheel drive truck just to see how much damage there was. We're kind of used to it.
I used to live in Florida, too and went through a number of hurricanes. I'll take a hurricane over a tornado any day. The worst hurricanes are the ones that spawn tornadoes. Those are a freaking nightmare.

(22,000 posts)In Portland we rarely got much snow, but my first year in college we got a real dozy of a storm in the late afternoon. Two people went out front of our dorm and started a snowball fight and a little while later there were about 60 of us. The buses came right down the street in front of the dorm, so every time one would come people would yell "bus" and we'd each have a couple snowballs to pummel the poor bus. They must have really hated us.

(53,038 posts)So if we win Virginia, Romney cannot become President. America will be a much better place as a result.

(119 posts)The president has led in each poll for the past few months.
Except for a few gravis, Ras polls the past 2 weeks, we have been winning VA & will win it
Even Gravis is giving VA to Obama again.
If only we could drop Cantor too....oh please, God drop Cantor the jerk.

(22,671 posts)Unfortunately, people who don't own a landline, like myself, never get polled, and therefore the poll is under represented by young people.

(53,038 posts)right?
If they only used landlines, the actual lead could be even bigger.

(23,960 posts)For Obama, +4 in VA is "clinging to a slim lead"
If Romney were +4 in VA, it'd be an "immense blowout mandate" or some other silly shit.
When Obama's up by 2, he's "within the margin of error."
When Romney's up by 2, he's "opened up a strong lead."
I'm gettin' mighty sick of this.
