White House press secretary Psaki says she has COVID-19

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sunday she has contracted COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.

Psaki, 42, said she was last in contact with President Joe Biden on Tuesday, when she met him in the White House, where they were more than 6 feet apart and wearing masks. Biden, who is tested frequently, last tested negative on Saturday, according to the White House.

Psaki did not accompany Biden on his trip abroad to Rome this weekend for the Group of 20 summit and next Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday for a U.N. climate summit.

Psaki had planned to travel with the president but scrapped the trip just as he was set to depart for Europe after learning that members of her household had tested positive for COVID-19.

It has often been said you need to be in close contact with someone, for a good amount of time. You are very unlikely to pick it up walking past someone in a store.

Just after my flu shot I was feeling fatigued and thought it was a response to the flu shot. But, the fatigue continued two days, and then I got a headache. So, I went in for the Covid test, and was positive. I did not pass it on to my family, thank goodness. The symptoms were mild. But, you are correct. It is nerve-racking because you just don't know which way it is going to go. I was isolated for 14 days. And scared. (I have diabetes).

I had the vaccine and finally, after two years of strict isolation, I went for a hair cut. And, that is where I caught Covid. The salon was good about separation, partitions, cleaning, masks...and yet I still got it. Someone said everyone is going to get it, no matter how well we attempt to protect ourselves. I believe that is likely true.

Yeah for the vaccine, which is likely the reason I had a mild case, and likely the reason my family did not get it.

Saw an article recently that says those "sneeze guard" partitions may actually increase covid transmission.

That's because they can serve to block air handling systems from exchanging indoor air for fresh, uncontaminated air. So the virus can linger longer around the partitions. An indoor area might actually be safer without the partitions.

The last six people we have had test positive at work were all vaccinated, all mild cases, two were their second confirmed infection. Everyone should expect to get COVID at some point in the coming years, if you are vaccinated its not a big deal.

but it greatly reduces your chance of getting very ill and / or dying from Covid.

There is some evidence that both having Covid-19 and vaccination is better at reducing the risk of catching Covid-19 a second or third time. Of course, the correct order that greatly reduces your chance of serious illness is to be vaccinated first, then catch the virus... but the very best idea is to get vaccinated, take the booster shot... and hope that the variants will have a vaccine made for them shortly.

Was she this good before becoming Press Secretary, or did she train and focus on this role for quite awhile. Asked because she is the most adept at quick and meaningful replies, at controlling the boundaries and line of reasoning of anyone I've ever seen.

Astounding. Far and away, the best I’ve ever seen in that role. If I were the CEO of a major corporation, I would be trying to recruit her away when she leaves the White House and paying her whatever it takes.

It's why we need boosters, so it doesn't
1. Kill us.
2. Spread to our loved ones.

Stay well, Psaki.

people, than the time before the vaccine. They just keep coming. Generally these people were very careful before, like never went to a restaurant, but now aren't so careful.
