American Airlines cancels 250 more flights
Source: CNN
American says it canceled 1,058 flights on Sunday, or roughly one in every five of its originally scheduled flights. That was on top of the 548 flights it canceled on Saturday and 343 flights on Friday. Overall about 10% of its mainline flights have been canceled over the four-day period. The canceled flights have stranded tens of thousands of passengers.

When the Covid-19 pandemic brought air travel to a near halt in 2020, airlines offered staff buyouts, early retirement packages and unpaid leave to cut costs and survive the downturn. Now all the airlines are scrambling to hire employees and bring back as much staff as possible.
But unions at the various carriers charge that some of the service disruptions are due to bad management decisions and flawed scheduling systems. And they say that the problems will not end with this weekend's woes.

(2,728 posts)1 in 5 flights cancelled by AA on Sunday. Doesn't seem sustainable to me.

(3,341 posts)I'd think the industry doesn't accept it as sustainable either, and is looking into every possibility to maximize flights and profits again.

(10,011 posts)I read some weeks ago that airlines were having to re-certify pilots who had been off too long, but that should have been done by now. Ive only been on few flights since summer, but Ive observed that many flight attendants are really young, leading me to wonder whether a number of the experienced ones retired for good, especially given the flight interruptions and attacks by idiots on planes these days. Perhaps we need a new law that bars anyone who attacks a flight attendant or refuses to follow FAA rules such as mask wearing from future flights on all domestic airlines for at least five years. That might stop some of the right-wing BS about their freedom to disobey rules.

(6,606 posts)pilots are falling behind on recent annual training.
Classes that are mandatory every year because so many Trainers got Covid&/or retired and replacements are hard to find.
Also lots of pilots are whining about mandatory vaccines, most wouldnt dream of
Losing their jobs over mandatory vaccines because almost all probably worked for military.
Sad fact tho, most are Trumpies.
Lots of sick outs going on as well. Passive resistance from Union Pilots. (Go figure)
