Almost one in three of Republicans say violence may be necessary to 'save' US

Source: Guardian

Troubling statistics show the post-election rancor that led to the US Capitol attack on 6 January is still very much in place

Almost a third of Republicans believe violence may be necessary to “save” the US, according to a new poll. Researchers at the Public Religion Research Institute, a nonprofit, found that 30% of Republicans agreed with the statement “Because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country”.

Among Americans who believe the 2020 election was “stolen” from Donald Trump, which it was not, 39% believe violence may be required.

The troubling statistics show the post-election rancour that led to the violent insurrection at the US Capitol on 6 January is still very much in place.

Republicans are most likely to believe “true American patriots may have to resort to violence”, PRRI found, with just 11% of Democrats and 17% of independents agreeing with the statement. Among all Americans, 18% agreed.

I consider myself a true American patriot- hmm- and I am beginning to believe each day with each drum beat of those assholes, from Neo-Nazis to school board nuts to anti-vaxxeers, that perhaps violence is necessary to "save" the US. My patience and good humor is eroding bit by bit each day with their stupidity and ignorance. Wrapping themselves in an American flag, calling themselves "patriots" , and advocating violence is really starting to piss me off. Fascist and thugs each and every one of them.

Or maybe they just want an excuse to beat up and kill people they don't like.

Because I know they're not talking about Russian interference in elections and relentless cyber attacks.

In this instance, what does it mean to “save” the country? Is it white supremacy? Is it theocracy? Is it forcing women to stay at home and become baby machines? Is it forcing LGBTQ back underground and taking away their rights? Is if ensuring that white people always have first preference for college admissions and jobs, relegating minorities to menial positions?

And what do they mean by violence? Is it killing all protesters who object to unfair elections? Police brutality? Assassinating elected officials who are liberal? What violence do they support? And who commits this violence? Do responders think anti-government militias like the Proud Boys should simply be authorized to go kill anyone who disagrees with them?

The questions that never get asked relate to the right wing’s vision of the country. I suspect it is white privilege,,white supremacy but forcing them to acknowledge that racism is what drives them might be good.

could find quickly, ReTHUG voters make up 40% of the electorate here in the U.S.*
One out of three of that is 33.3% which leaves us with 12% to 13% of reTHUG
voters that advocate violence. I think we can handle them.

Disclaimer: I'm sure that the end justifies the means in many cases.

Those are all the things the Republicons and their Russian komrades hate, as evidenced by their violent assault over over 140 Capitol Police, and the murders they committed in attacking the USA because no honest American would swallow the Republican Big Lie.

If they can’t attack the nonwhite anymore in any part of the world they want, they are willing to make war at home.

Trump thought he had the military in his pocket. He didn’t. So now they have build all these treasonous militias.

I think they fail in the end. Although it would help if all media would report right from wrong once in awhile.

They lost the Civil War. Yet I was told more than once during the four years I was stationed in the South in the mid-1960s.

Told that they didn't lose the war they just lost the battle and would rise to fight again.

This will never get solved until the gene pool no longer exists. Which will probably be never.

"no time for two and a half months family leave, because we have to save the country." From what? Stuff the Repubs don't want, or don't believe in? Save the country from THEM? Was that an inelegant sarcastic remark to the fact that honest-thinking voters are alarmed at this fascist trend the GOP is taking?

Boy, Trump truly ruined the Repub Party, and made it into his party. I've never seen anything like this.

just how concerned I should be. Latest stats reveal the percentage of registered GOP voters has dropped from 29% to 25% and falling. So, we are discussing 30% of 25% of GOP voters. Using my unskilled math that works out to to 7.5% of registered GOP voters.
