Igor Danchenko, source for Steele dossier, arrested as part of Durham probe

An analyst who was a primary source for a 2016 dossier of allegations against Donald Trump has been arrested on charges that he repeatedly lied to the FBI about where and how he got his information, officials said Thursday.
Igor Danchenkos role in providing information to British ex-spy Christopher Steele, who compiled the accusations about Trump in a series of reports, has long been a subject of investigators scrutiny and became a particular focus of special counsel John Durham.
Steele presented the dossier to the FBI, and it became part of the basis for secret surveillance court orders targeting former Trump adviser Carter Page as the FBI investigated possible ties between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Russia.
Durhams probe into that FBI investigation has also led to an indictment of a lawyer connected to Democrats, on a charge that he lied to the FBI. In addition, a former FBI lawyer who worked on the Page surveillance application later pleaded guilty to altering an email related to that case.

(1,123 posts)nothing's been done by the DOJ regarding Bannon! It's time to pull the plug on the Barr/Durham "probe" and investigate actual corruption and criminal acts.

(792 posts)The events related to this arrest took place over four years ago so Bannon may be arrested sometime in 2025.

The DC US Attorney's office received the referral via a courier Thursday night. It could decline to charge Bannon, charge him quickly, or use a grand jury to investigate and indict the longtime adviser to former President Donald Trump.
There's no strict timeline for how much time the Justice Department will take in deciding whether to move forward with the prosecution. And it's not absolute that Bannon will be charged.

Typically, the office's public integrity section of the DC US Attorney's office handles congressional contempt allegations and other referrals.

The indictment charges that in fact, Danchenko used Dolan as a source for some of the dossiers allegations...
