Teen driver who struck cyclists with truck charged with 6 felony counts
Source: Houston Chronicle
"Following a six-week inquiry, the Waller County District Attorney's office on Monday announced felony charges for a teenage driver involved in a collision with six cyclists on a county road on Sept. 25.
The 16-year-old driver was allegedly attempting to billow exhaust from his Ford Super Duty onto a group of riders training for a triathlon on Old Highway 290 when he lost control and drove his vehicle into the group, hitting six riders and hospitalizing four. The driver stopped and spoke with responding officers, but left the scene without charges or a citation, incensing local bike advocates and spurring a war of words between Waller District Attorney Elton Mathis and Waller Police Chief Bill Llewellyn over how the incident was initially handled."

(58,785 posts)see severe problems with charging minors as adults. Also with dispensing different "justice" based on race. The vindictive, punitive you-know-whos are behind that.
After all, minors are not adults and they're not somehow more guilty because they're black or white. Let's stick with that principle.
Also with efforts to achieve equal justice for all -- not multiply and spread injustice.

(38,958 posts)The local cops may have been hesitant to arrest him on the scene for that reason. I dont agree with their decision to not take him into custody immediately, but they may have not wanted to deal with this can of worms.

(845 posts)And once in a while I would have some idiots throw something at me usually a soda bottle, it was always a group of guys. Then you have the idiots who lay on the horn just as they go by.
Now my work is 100 feet from the house and the road I bike has very few cars my biggest concern is people looking at their cell for service while driving. People do really stupid stuff in the safety of their metal cage.

(4,585 posts)That pisses me off. I had someone do that to me on a dangerous stretch of highway when conditions were already dicey, and it compounded the hazardous conditions.

(4,552 posts)These clowns custom tune the diesel engine to dump more fuel and it is not legal. They can be arrested and the truck impounded. The fine is 10k or 90 days in jail and is charged as felony tampering. Felony means no more guns for you dickweed. So the question I have is did the truck have a tuner on the ECM.
Old Crank
(3,596 posts)You can mail order replacement tuning chips that plug right in. One problem is that smog checks on diesel trucks are basically visual in nature. You can't tell the difference by just looking.
States need to start hooking them up to the computer systems and inspecting the tuning chips.

(4,585 posts)were already dangerous with heavy traffic and light drizzle. The asshole who did it is lucky he did not cause a major accident. I had no idea it was not legal since I have seen it often enough here in TX. The other day it was some kid at the high school with a Trump 2024 flag on the back of his truck.

(4,552 posts)To roll coal the emission controls on the engine needs to be altered.
It may be legal to defeat emission controls on private property / off road. It is illegal to alter the emission controls on our public highways.
Old Crank
(3,596 posts)Rolling coal on a public way should be punished severely everytime. Also diesel engines need more than a cursory examination. They need to be tested for emissions and proper computer chips.
