U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert considers opposing Texas AG Ken Paxton in GOP primary

Source: Houston Chronicle

Conservative U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert is considering joining the crowded GOP primary field for Texas Attorney General and is accepting donations for an exploratory committee, according to a website that went live Tuesday.

Gohmert has not made an official announcement, but the website said Gohmert is seeking $1 million by Nov. 19.

“It will take more than $1,000,000 to win against the current Attorney General’s many millions of dollars in his account, but that amount to start with will allow a statewide campaign to have a chance,” the site reads. “Texas & our nation hang in the balance.”

The two-term incumbent Ken Paxton already faces three high-profile primary opponents: Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman and state Rep. Matt Krause, R-Fort Worth.

never better to have Republican run state houses or AG's to support their minority rule efforts.
This will lead to minority rule government in Washington, and idiots who've never faced a primary and don't know anything but what Koch and "personal" energy lobbyists tell them, and Gohmert will just provide the legal veneer for the ALEC run corporate campus of Texas.

This is from the Texas Election Code https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/EL/htm/EL.141.htm

Sec. 141.033. FILING APPLICATIONS FOR MORE THAN ONE OFFICE PROHIBITED. (a) A candidate may not file applications for a place on the ballot for two or more offices that:

(1) are not permitted by law to be held by the same person; and

(2) are to be voted on at one or more elections held on the same day.

(b) If a person files more than one application for a place on a ballot in violation of this section, each application filed subsequent to the first one filed is invalid.

(c) This section does not apply to candidacy for the office of president or vice-president of the United States and another office.

Gohmert can only run for one office

I think factions of the TX GOP may smell something coming down the road from Paxton's felony indictments.

Also, earlier this year, Paxton criticized Gov. Abbot's handling of the pandemic as Abbot was running for reelection, "I don't think he supports me; I don't support him."

So we'd replace a felon with the self-described "dumbest man in congress." Out of the fire, so to speak.

Literally: will not jump without his huaraches (shoes)

It is used to refer to people who, to perform any action, always put the benefit that they will get first.

So, the question is, how does this benefit Goober.

Y’all, this is *almost* too good to be true. This is Breaking Texas News.

Louie Gohmert is going to run against Ken Paxton. https://gohmert.net/

And after you settle down laughing about that — what does this make George P Bush? Chopped liver?

Honey, I will buy tickets to a debate between Gohmert and Paxton.

What I read in Wikipedia is that Mr. Gohmert has a law degree from Baylor, but no practical experience as a working attorney. From law school he immediately entered the U.S. Army JAG Corps and received training in the JAG School. He spent 4 years with the U.S. Army JAG mostly working as a military defense attorney. After leaving the Army in 1982 (at age 29) Gohmert was elected to his first stint as a district judge in Tyler, Texas. He's been elected several times into various judicial positions, but he's always been more of a politician than a judge. Of course we all know that Gohmert changed hats again in 2004 when he won his first election as a U.S. Representative.

Has this guy ever prosecuted a criminal case? It doesn't seem like it. Maybe Texans don't care.

Maybe he plans to use the AG chair to leapfrog into the Governor's mansion, and maybe Texans are fine with that.
