U.S. Postal Service warns vaccine rules could affect deliveries
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Postal Service raised concerns on Wednesday that the Biden administration's new rules requiring large employers to require vaccinations or weekly COVID-19 testing could result in "high levels of absenteeism" and affect deliveries.
Last week, the Labor Department issued rules that require businesses with 100 or more employees to mandate weekly testing or vaccines by Jan. 4. The rules also require that employers ensure unvaccinated employees working in-person must wearing masks by Dec. 5.
The 644,000-employee USPS said in a financial filing that complying with the new vaccine and testing rules known as an Emergency Temporary Standard, or ETS, "will be extremely challenging to implement and administer during the height of our peak season, particularly given its expedited schedule."
Compliance, the USPS warned, "could result in labor challenges and high levels of absenteeism." Some employees could opt to leave, which "could cause significant business disruptions, and could adversely impact service performance and result in lower mail volume and revenue."

That was my first thought also.

(4,587 posts)Biden should have acted to get this son of a bitch removed a year ago (removing board members for cause), rather than waiting for board members' terms to expire, which happens next month. DeJoy has caused much damage to USPS in the one year that Biden chose not to act. We can't get rid of this treasonous rat bastard DeJoy fast enough.

(7,412 posts)Just using those two large population blue and red states as a general example, if 40% of the USPS isnt vaxxed and they get suspended or laid off, thats gonna take awhile to fix. Many will comply though when crunch time comes.

(19,066 posts)The vast majority of people won't quit their jobs over vaccine mandates. The ones who do aren't the type of people you want around anyway, they're incapable of critical thought and good decision making.

(1,307 posts)Should enough postal workers quit or be fired for not getting vaccinated that the mail is slowed, well, at least its a more acceptable reason than DeJoy gives for the slowdowns weve experienced.
We note that other industries that predicted similar personnel woes from vaccine mandates have not seen the predicted problems.
