BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Jacqueline Avant, a philanthropist and the wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant, killed at their home in Beverly Hills, California.
The Beverly Hills Police Department announced the arrest of Aariel Maynor on Thursday afternoon.
Maynor is currently on parole and was taken into custody early Wednesday by Los Angeles police after a burglary in a separate residence, Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook said.
Police recovered an AR-15 rifle at the home where Maynor was arrested. It was believed to have been used in the shooting of Jacqueline Avant. Maynor shot himself in the foot with the gun and is being treated before he can be booked into jail.

(9,074 posts)I woke up around 3:30 am to helicopters and search lights so I checked the Citizen app and the original report was that someone had been shot in the leg and a suspect was at large. Eventually the helicopters left. When I got up that event popped up on my phone and I noticed that the victims of a robbery clarified what happened on Citizen.
They said that they were inside their home and someone broke in. The robber left but shot himself in the leg then tried to spin it as he was a victim. The robber was screaming for help per the victims and other neighbors. He told the cops that a masked man shot him so there was a search but the cops soon figured out he was the only person and was trying to bullshit them.
I'm glad they caught him and I'm glad the victims in the second robbery are okay but I'm deeply saddened for the Avant family.
