Ocasio-Cortez: 'Embarrassment' that Democratic leaders are delaying Boebert punishment
Source: The Hill
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) moved swiftly earlier in the year to discipline Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) for promoting violent rhetoric and imagery against Democratic lawmakers. But after Boebert suggested that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), one of three Muslims in Congress, poses a threat of terrorist violence because of her faith, Democratic leaders have been approaching the explosive episode more cautiously.
The circumspection is increasingly agitating Omars liberal allies, who are calling at the very least for party leaders to strip Boebert of her committee seats, as theyd done with Greene and Gosar. And the frustration is bubbling up as the days remaining to act before the long holiday recess grow scarce.
I havent heard anything binding from leadership, which in and of itself is an embarrassment, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), often referred to simply as AOC, told The Hill on Tuesday night. This shouldnt take this long; this should not drag on. Its pretty simple. It doesnt have to be a big huge thing. Its pretty open and closed."

(13,616 posts)I do not want to call people out because of course, the policy might get me tossed, but ask yourself why is it that you can always find people talking about how bad AoC is, how they hopes someone would run against her, that she is doomed, etc. Look and see the same named on those columns, I know you have read them.
As far as what "centrist" means ask Sinema and Manchin when they talk about how the president's plan is too much, even though Joe had NO problem with Trump's tax cut. Ask Sinema why she won't even touch the sacred filibuster.

(297,774 posts)know, also.
I saw an OP recently that Omar said she "..was confident that Nancy was going to punish Boebert..".
There's no need for this Divisiveness.. not going to help us Keep the House in 2022.
Cha
(297,774 posts)who are you talking about "Centrists"?
Please do tell us?
I saw an OP a few days that ago that Omar said she was confident that Speaker Pelosi was going to punish Boebbert.
Why the Divisiveness that isn't going to help us WIN in 2022?

(326 posts)Muslims are one of the easier groups to otherize but certainly Jews, LGBT, black people and increasingly Asians certainly are targets. One of Democrats big problems with rural voters is that they dont know many or any of these otherized groups. Much harder to demonize people you actually come to know. I used to live in Atlanta and work in Gwinnett and its like a world many rural people cant imagine works let alone is is a positive thing.

(11,384 posts)(again). Not to say that I can't see opposing points - but I trust the leadership and their perspective.

Come down swift and hard as one.
Post the names of all reps who wont sign on to official penalties, Dems included, move on.

(11,384 posts)with taking a reading of where sentiment lies within the membership. I'm assuming if the level of outrage and offense was sufficient, the response would reflect that. But I'm just guessing.
Here's the response that leadership issued:
"Congresswoman Boebert's repeated, ongoing and targeted Islamophobic comments and actions against another member of Congress, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, are both deeply offensive and concerning," the statement reads. "We call on Congresswoman Boebert to fully retract these comments and refrain from making similar ones going forward."
That apparently didn't suffice for some members (as in the OP) - and that's OK too. Difference of opinion.

(15,325 posts)That was a bridge too far?
Just saying..Has that incident been forgotten already? Was anyone of that group stripped of committees for sounding antisemetic directives?
They were approached & told to stop the rhetoric
They have also denounced Boebert.
Neither has a place in our US legislature.

When were Democratic leaders supposed to act?

(13,616 posts)and scream and shame these fools, they should have. It is funny how a bunch of half rate internet jocks can do so much damage on the right, but many on the left act like they never had a cell phone.
