Biden concedes Build Back Better bill won't get passed this year

Source: Politico

President Joe Biden acknowledged Thursday that negotiations over his Build Back Better bill are poised to drag on into 2022 despite efforts and pledges by Democrats to get it done before Christmas.

“It takes time to finalize these agreements, prepare the legislative changes, and finish all the parliamentary and procedural steps needed to enable a Senate vote,” the president said in a statement. He said that he spoke to Democratic leaders in Congress, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, earlier Thursday and they plan to “advance this work together over the days and weeks ahead; Leader Schumer and I are determined to see the bill successfully on the floor as early as possible.”

With the holidays approaching and the Senate eager to leave town on Friday, however, a vote isn't likely until after New Year's Day.

The statement is a recognition that the president’s team has so far failed to persuade Sen. Joe Manchin (D–W.Va.) to sign onto anything resembling the $1.75 trillion social spending and climate mitigation bill passed by the House of Representatives last month.

he's been doing what he can, but some will never be moved in the direction of helping people.

100% of Republicans and two Democrats will never vote yes on it.

it’ll be whittled way down. It’s Manchin’s bill at this point.

Unlike Manchin, she just hasn't been in front of the cameras; she's just been in the background - for the most part - saying what she won't support.

tax cuts and free cash to Billionaires, Fossil Fuel, and Pharma, with maybe a means-tested child tax credit...if they are forced to add something for kids.

In other words, I have zero hope that he will lift even one finger to help anyone who hasn't paid him in some way.

Would being wrong be nice? Oh yes it would.

must take this opportunity to severely dress down the Dino turncoats and plants who made this possible.

Every Dem and progressive citizen must collectively ask themselves this pertinent question: how much responsibility falls upon us for not organizing massive nonviolent, direct actions.

Most of these people we elect will only lead us if we lead them first.

Personally, I’m a shit organizer but a great worker and follower.

Organizers to the front!

9. Manchin and Sinema are literally risking Democracy.

The sheer power of these 2 to very likely facilitate a MAGA comeback and the end of democracy is astounding. The Senate, Supreme Court, and electoral college are about as anti democracy as you can get.

They might want some infrastructure in their state. Major initiatives should never be stuck on one dude.

Meanwhile GOP doesn't do anything useful and doesn't care.

16. Opposition coming from all directions. The best damn thing to happen to this beat up country ....

....in decades, & the voices of whiny opposition to the President & Party who hands it all to us, just can't shut up in their spin for media posturing, fundraising & celebrity.

There should have been NO delays from the first role out. NO opposition.
This plan was as detailed & as perfect as America could have ever dreamed of.

Political sabotuers are to blame.

This is not why American taxpayers sent them to DC, their campaign slogans are a lie, & they all should be hanging their heads in shame & looking for another fking job.
Their fat salaries & govt benes are paid by the same Americans who they have thumbed their noses at, stalled & bullshitted away, since early summer.

Why are they there if not for unity & support to an American President who thought of everybody, left out no one, in his determined mission to repair the nation for the people who own it.

Loud mouth lying TV & Media posers with an agenda of nothing but political opposition.

"Fk you America, I got mine!."

18. Couldn't Schumer bring the bill to a vote and just vote "no" if it isn't going to pass?
Fri Dec 17, 2021, 02:46 PM
Dec 2021

Wasn't that the strategy on the voting rights bill? He voted "no" at the last minute so he could re-introduce the bill at a later date (a later date being as soon as the next week).

Not forcing a vote screams they are protecting Manchin and Sinema and possibly other members of the corporatist crew. Why? Possibly to avoid having them dig in harder and outright kill the bill. However, that didn't stop them from re-introducing the voting rights bill(s) repeatedly and that still went nowhere.
