Biden to restart talks with Manchin after 'cooling off' period

Source: The Hill

Senate Democrats agreed at a virtual lunchtime meeting Tuesday that everyone in their caucus would take a deep breath and step back from the heated debate over Biden’s sweeping climate and social spending plan to give Manchin some space.

Democratic senators say they have agreed to a cooling off period to give Biden and Manchin time to restart the talks that collapsed after Manchin told “Fox News Sunday” on Dec. 19 that he could not support the $1.75 trillion framework unveiled by the White House in October.

“We all acknowledge, understand there’s a cooling off period and we need to give a little distance to Manchin and Biden on this so they can come back together and try again,” said a Democratic senator who participated in Tuesday’s caucus discussion. “My guess is there will be a very significant reworking of the bill,” the lawmaker added.

Manchin on Tuesday reiterated his opposition to Build Back Better when asked about potential changes to the bill that might secure his support. “I’m really not going to talk about Build Back Better anymore because I think I’ve been very clear on that,” he said.

Manchin is in the pocket of the oil-gas coal industry. Sinema is owned by Big Pharmacy.

Plus, Manchin loves the power he wields. It's probably the first time in his life that he's gotten so much attention. It's easy. All he has to do is make demands without offering a single positive solution.

Sinema is just bat-shit crazy. Everything she is doing is in direct opposition of what she ran on.

10. A "cooling off period"! Well, another victory for Manchin. And we're falling for it again.

Here we are again. Too afraid to fight. Too afraid to call his bluff. Too afraid to act in whatever manner is necessary to keep this democracy in one piece.

I’m sick and tired of Manchin’s tactics. In a month or two, he’ll agree to the program, but at the last minute, find a reason to oppose the bill. Right now, I don’t think I could stand to be in a room with either him or Sinema.
