The Republican official who famously resisted Donald Trumps attempt to overturn his election defeat in Georgia has said he will run for re-election on a platform of integrity and truth, against an opponent who as a churchman should know better than to advance the former presidents lies.
Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state, became a household name after he turned down Trumps demand that he find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have [to get] in order to overturn Joe Bidens win in the southern state. It was the first victory by a Democrat in a presidential race in Georgia since 1992.
This year, Raffensperger will run for re-election against Jody Hice, a pastor, US congressman and Trump acolyte.
Congressman Hice, hes been in Congress for several years, Raffensperger said on Sunday, on CBSs Face the Nation. Hes never done a single piece of election reform legislation.
Then he certified his own race with those same machines, the same ballots [that were used for the presidential election]. And yet for President Trump, he said you couldnt trust that.

(3,402 posts)There is a pandemic in the republican party...well, a few, but one that has been going on for a while and it just reached peak levels before, during and after the buffoon's stunt in the White House, that pandemic is the loss of dignity, Raffensperger is no exception, his title does not reflect who the man is.
Yes, he had a moment of integrity during the chaos the buffoon created about the election, and that is to be commended, a thousand claps for his honorable actions, but after that he has not lived up to the title of his book.
And maybe it is best that he remains a republican to try to win his re-election, I know his opponent lacks any integrity, or any morals one could speak of...who knows.

(54,770 posts)Raffensperger still gets a few points for standing for truth, as far as Im concerned.
Hope hes forced into retirement next year.
not fooled
(5,801 posts)when he was out promoting his book, I watched him interviewed. He did the "bothsiderism" BS, claiming that Stacey Abrams' disputing GA election procedures (where kemp clearly acted to promote HIS OWN ELECTION) was the left's equivalent of The Big Lie. So no, not impressed but he comes across relatively well compared to the crazies.

(12,597 posts)If both of them win the GOP primary, that would be a huge slap in his face.
But its going to be tough for Brad & kemp. I thought Kemp would easily win until Perdue got into the race. The funny thing about THAT is that Trumpers were calling HIM a "traitor" last year too
This is how stupid Trump supporters are. When trump spoke in Perry Ga last year he said he would rather have Stacy Abrams as gov than Kemp. Thats proof that he doesnt care about what his supporters want, only revenge. Now, if you are a real Republican, conservative, etc; how can you support THAT? But its a cult now. Nothing else
