The FBI was on the scene Wednesday near the Laredo home of U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar for what authorities described as a court-authorized ongoing investigation.
FBI spokesperson Rosanne Hughes confirmed law enforcements presence in the area but did not clarify what authorities were investigating.
Hughes said in a statement that the FBI was present on two streets around Cuellars house in Laredo conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity.

According to the FBI liaison, they were lawfully present conducting court-authorized law enforcement activities at a downtown location on Washington and Davis Ave. and in the vicinity of Winridge Drive and Estate Drive in Winfield Estates.
Witnesses say the downtown office in question where the FBI was seen is 1519 Washington.
That address reportedly houses the Texans for Henry Cuellar offices as well as other separate private businesses.
I couldn't find any stories of him being investigated or being at the center of a scandal of any kind.
He was friends with Rick Perry but as far as I could determine, he wasn't known to be caught up in any Perry shenanigans.

(43,461 posts)change denier and MAGA-hugger US House member John Carter.
He is a forced-birther (and votes that way), has been anti-LGBTQ, A rated by the NRA, anti-immigrant, anti green/climate change to a large degree, massively pro big oil and pro private prison (he is involved via massive (close to the highest in all of the House) campaign contributions with the Trump scandal-ridden Geo Group, who ran most of the for profit detention centres, including ones with kids in cages).
He has been bashing Biden and Harris (especially Harris as of late) for close to a year on immigration, etc etc. Voted almost 70% of the time with Trump in the 115th Congress, the highest of any Dem (Conor Lamb was second). His district, in its entire history, has never once elected a Rethug, so he doesn't have the 'Manchin excuse'.

I do know there is a lot of oil and gas involved with those particular campaigns, but it's total speculation.
However, oil and gas is what did Carlos Uresti in. But there were rumors swirling about Carlos for quite awhile.

Equality before the law. Sorry, but I'm just funny that way.

Cuellar is a long-entrenched figure in South Texas politics. He represented Laredo in the Texas House from 1987 to 2001, earning a reputation for working closely with Republicans. In 2001 Governor Rick Perry appointed him secretary of state, a coveted but largely ceremonial office. After just nine months in that role, Cuellar ran against Henry Bonilla to represent the Twenty-third Congressional District, which then included Laredo. He lost to the incumbent Republican 52 to 47 percent. After the states controversial 2003 redistricting, which shifted Laredo into a more Democratic-leaning district, held by Ciro Rodriguez, Cuellar ran a bruising primary challenge to Rodriguez. He squeaked out a narrow victory and hasnt faced a close election since. In 2018 his only opponent was a Libertarian, whom he trounced with more than 84 percent of the vote.
To the dismay of progressives like the Justice Democrats, Cue-llars a Blue Dog Democrat. Hes a fiscally conservative deficit hawk with a mixed record on abortion rights. On border issues, he often stakes out positions that aggravate immigrant-rights activists. In 2014 he and Republican Texas senator John Cornyn cosponsored a bill that would have made it easier to deport Central American children quickly, a measure ORourke called a very shortsighted, inhumane, irrational response to an influx of migrants.

(15,223 posts)I worked for one of Leininger's businesses during this time, and it was well known that Cuellar had been "hand picked" by the Republicans. Just because he says he's a Democrat does not make him a Democrat.
I haven't heard an explanation yet as to why the FBI is searching his home and offices, but it does not surprise me.
Thanks for your post!
