Ottawa declares state of emergency as police boost enforcement, target protest's fuel supply
Source: CBC
The City of Ottawa declared a state of emergency Sunday afternoon in response to ongoing protests in the downtown core, while Mayor Jim Watson described the situation in the nation's capital as the "the most serious emergency our city has ever faced."
Watson said the declaration will help Ottawa Police get the supplies and equipment they need faster.
"The state of emergency gives our staff and our city a few extra tools to speed up things like procurement," he said in an interview with CBC News Network on Sunday evening.
"We're in the midst of a serious emergency, the most serious emergency our city has ever faced, and we need to cut the red tape to get these supplies available to our police officers and to our public works staff."

Problem is, at that point they may not be able to move their trucks out of there too.

(408 posts)The crowds are too large to confront directly.
There are many in the gathering(it has long since devolved from any semblance of a legitimate protest) that would use any action on the part of law enforcement as an excuse to escalate things.
So gather information. All the idiots are identifying themselves, just as they did before. Especially the American truck drivers with their serial numbers on their vehicles who may be surprised to find they might not be so welcome to cross the border again in the future.
They are protesting health measures to keep the public safe by shutting down the main part of the city that has access to the hospitals. They aren't making any friends. My roommate had his booster cancelled as a result of their idiocy.
They are not making friends.
Edit to make reply title more clear
Oops, second edit for clarification - I'm in Toronto where they are affecting access to our major hospital. Not sure if that is relevant for Ottawa.

Passerby saw flames, broke in, and extinguished fire.
Cited as one of the reasons govt finally takin action.
Attempted mass murder will do that.

(47,567 posts)As you said, it is attempted mass murder. What do they hope to accomplish by killing innocent people? Sounds more like civil war.

(75 posts)EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) Truckers in the United States are getting ready to follow the lead of their Canadian counterparts and form a convoy that will travel from California to Washington D.C.
This after 50,000 Canadian truck drivers formed a 45 mile convoy to Ottawa this week to protest the governments vaccine mandate. The same mandate issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security who is requiring that non-U.S. essential workers such as truck drivers to be fully vaccinated against COVID. If they are not fully vaccinated, they will not be allowed to cross land borders, from Canada or Mexico.

The American Truckers formed a Facebook group that as of Sunday has more than 67,000 members.
The page states that they support freedom and they are done with the mandates.
We are part of many large groups who believe in our founding fathers. We believe everyone has a voice. We support our freedom. Help us spread the word about this group and together we all can make it a better place.. God Bless America, the page reads.

(2,396 posts)Do they know some of the "founding fathers" (notice no founding mothers) were slave owners and that they did not allow women to vote?
I'll bet they "believe in Jesus," also.

(75 posts)So the convoy of US truckers, whose stated purpose is to protest the vaccine mandate for truck drivers, is a false flag operation. There is no vaccine mandate for truck drivers. I hope law enforcement agencies in states from California to Washington DC are coordinating preemptive tactics for dealing with these troublemakers. Here's an article from the American Trucking Association website
January 13, 2022. Arlington, Virginia American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear issued the following statement today after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced it is withdrawing its vaccine-or-test emergency temporary standard, which the U.S. Supreme Court stayed on January 13:
We successfully challenged this misguided mandate all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, because it was a clear overstep of OSHAs authority, and because it would have had disastrous consequences for an already-overstressed supply chain. The Supreme Court bounced it, and we are pleased to see the agency has now formally withdrawn it, sending this ETS (Vax or Test Emergency Temporary Standard) to the dustbin where it belongs.
The American people depend on us to deliver their essential goods each and every day, and well continue to fight any proposals out of Washington that hinder our ability to do so safely and efficiently. That includes any attempt by OSHA to create a similar, permanent standard without going through the legally required process, including an actual risk-based analysis.
ATA led a coalition of state trucking associations and national business groups in challenging the ETS in federal court and filing an emergency application to the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay. Of the 14 emergency applications, the coalitions was one of only two that the Supreme Court chose to hear oral arguments on.
