Kirby added that Bloomberg will bring a wealth of experience in technology innovation, business and government to the Defense Innovation Board.
His leadership will be critical to ensuring the department has access to the best and brightest minds in science, technology and innovation through the team of diverse experts that he will lead as chair of that board, Kirby said.
The Defense Innovation Board is an advisory board that was established in 2016 to provide the department with recommendations on emerging technologies and innovative approaches to development.
Bloomberg, a three-term mayor of New York City and founder of the media company bearing his name, is estimated by Forbes to be worth $70 billion.

Complex systems increase in complexity while simultaneously becoming inherently unstable.
The US military changed from massive amounts of men and material to shock and awe and light, fast, mobile units based upon an in quick, out quick with predetermined exit strategies. The alteration of the very concept of warfare has resulted in a military/industrial/congressional/university complex that is heavily invested in itself while lacking understanding of psychological, political and economic motivations of humans that may not be but may become in opposition. David Pryce wrote a book called Weaponizing Anthropology which goes into how the military sought to utilize anthropology in understanding enemies in opposition to the ethical concerns of anthropologists.
The military and by extension nation-state security must be constantly in flux. Bloombergs alleged experience in innovation does not transfer to military/security issues imo. The stakes, conditions, and inputs are best understood using psychology, anthropology and sociology.

Assigning billionaires to arbitrary boards who have no experience is a corrupt practice frequently used by GOPers. It's a way to pay back donors and ensures the filthy rich keep their strangle hold on our democracy.
It looks like the defense secretary appointed him.
So has Bloomberg stopped sexually harassing his female employees? I think that needs to be established before he gets appointed to anything.
