Crowd fundraising site says they will defy Canadian court order to stop disbursing funds to convoy p

Online crowd fundraising site GiveSendGo said on Twitter it will not follow a Canadian court order mandating it stop distributing funds to convoy protesters.

"Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo," the company wrote on Twitter. "All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns."

The Superior Court of Justice in Ontario granted a restraining order requested by the Government of Ontario against the company and others, asking that funds to the protesters be halted — over $8.7 million USD has been raised in one campaign.

Ontario Attorney General spokesperson Brian Gray told CNN the order prohibits, "any person from disposing of, or otherwise dealing with, in any manner whatsoever, any and all monetary donations made through the Freedom Convoy 2022 and Adopt-a-Trucker campaign pages on the GiveSendGo online fundraising platform."

site a "Christian" based site? I think I read that when they first popped up after the original monies dried up for the truckers on gofundme. If so, that explains the arrogance!

BIG BAD troubles...

A White House official says members of the Biden administration held a series of high level calls with their Canadian counterparts, urging them to use their federal powers to end the blockades, offering the full support of the Department of Homeland Security.

That much is true. While the money is in the US, that site can manage it, bank it, shunt it around internal accounts, make bookkeeping entries, count pennies in their vault, etc.

But ...

The Canadian government can control funds like that when they come across the border. They have the power to seize money that would go to criminal enterprises.

see that defiance will, for the most part, result in little or no consequences. Refusal to comply has become the order of the day for the right. Government and law enforcement are tongue tied, hornswoggled, befuddled and baffled in response, or, supportive and standing down. If these were POC or progressives non-violently protesting, well,.....
