There was also alarm at Putins warnings of further action against Ukraine as a whole, questioning the countrys legitimacy and suggesting it presented a direct threat to Russia.
In Washington, the White House announced the prohibition of US investment in or trade with the breakaway republics and potential sanctions against anyone operating within the Moscow-backed territories.
We will also soon announce additional measures related to todays blatant violation of Russias international commitments, the White House spokesperson, Jen Psaki, said.

not until the russians lay waste to Ukraine, because if NATO or whomever did that now, they would have to actually back up their actions when putin gets pissed.
these sanctions are nothing more that papering over a bad spot and hoping no one pokes a hole through it.
I'm so fucking disgusted by this whole mess.
this is history rhyming again but those who should know the tune are tone deaf.

(10,011 posts)These sanctions need to hurt Putin. He has become a megalomaniac who will not stop until someone forces him to stop. Perhaps Trumps fawning led to him believing that he could do anything he wants with no repercussions, sort of like Trumps behavior as president.

What happened after Russia took over Crimea? I can't remember so it must not have been much or Putin wouldn't have invaded again.
Not going to be good for Biden if nothing happens again.
