MILAN, Feb 24 (Reuters) – European defence stocks were among the rare gainers in a falling market on Thursday on bets of bigger spending after Russian forces invaded Ukraine in the biggest attack in Europe since World War Two.
Shares in Britain’s biggest defence company BAE Systems (BAES.L) rose 4.8% to a one-year high and Germany’s Rheinmetall gained more than 2%. France’s Thales added 1% in late morning trading.
Shares in major U.S. defense contractors gained in premarket trading, with Lockheed Martin (LMT.N), Raytheon Technologies (RTX.N) and Northrop Grumman (NOC.N)rallying between 3% and 6%.
