Ukraine claims 800 Russian casualties, 1 surrendered Russian platoon, in Day 1 of invasion
Source: The Week
Ukraine's Defense Ministry said early Friday that since Russian invaded the country Thursday morning, Ukrainian forces have inflicted about 800 casualties on Russian forces (perhaps including wounded soldiers), destroyed more than 30 Russian tanks, seven Russian aircraft, and six helicopters, CNN reports, noting that it is "not able to independently verify Ukraine's figures."
The ministry claimed later Friday morning that Ukrainian air defenses had stopped "two deadly presents from our 'brothers'" from hitting Kyiv, and said Ukrainian forces had destroyed a bridge over the Teteriv river to keep approaching Russian armored units from reaching the embattled capital. Ukraine's Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper confirmed the bridge's destruction.

(43,257 posts)Panicking Putin's green troops to surrender is a goal at this point. But also remember that Saddam's Elite Guard was going to fight like hell. I think half the problem is we're fed many ideas about the trend of the war on TV, every general has a take and an experience, and they all crave face time and many are media consultants and presumably paid. So bringing the eyeballs is self-preservation, so the more salient details are at a premium. Unfortunately much of this information is speculation based on experience. I do wonder if the intent is to confuse the public into watching, or to confuse the enemy into believing.

I am glad to read of Ukrainian successes. Their courage is awesome. But they are still in grave danger of conquest by Russia.

(4,359 posts)to be exact. They hijacked a couple Ukrainian military vehicles, changed into Ukrainian army clothes and had a Russian convoy follow them to downtown Kyiv. They were "neutralized." More reports this morning are coming in from all over the country, Mariupol, Kharkiv, Kyiv of Ukrainian successes. People are underestimating the Ukrainians and not recognizing the Russian weaknesses. We'll see what happens but I know of a number of people who are surprised at Ukrainian resolve and success thus far.

(15,290 posts)on Putin's plan at least as far back as last September. It was reported that Biden used his Sept visit to the Vatican to brief UK/Ger/Italy/France about it on the down low. Yesterday, read a story that the US ramped up its military and financial support of Ukraine along with paramilitary training and sharing intelligence with them at the same time.

The puppet government that Putin wants to install, will have no peace - IF he manages to install one.

(4,359 posts)and an alleged reconnaissance platoon at that. The Ukrainian military does not appear to have embedded reporters with them so it's hard to get confirmation. And some of the main stream media is so hyped up it's difficult to know what's really happening.
