Harris County DA Kim Ogg says she will not prosecute parents who provide medical care to transgender children

Her statement is in response to latest order from Gov. Abbott and Texas AG Ken Paxton

HOUSTON – Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg responded to Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest order declaring pediatric gender-affirming care as child abuse.

On Wednesday, both Gov. Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton ordered the state’s child welfare agency to investigate reports of gender-confirming care for kids as abuse, the Associated Press reported.

Gender-affirming care, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, is the surgical and mental health services sought by transgender, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming people, ranging from hormone replacement to routine preventative care.

Ogg said in a statement that she will not prosecute “any parent, facility, or anyone else” for providing medical care to transgender children................................

And I find it very interesting that Abbott has everyone tightly focused on his terrorizing of trans teens right now.

Especially since it was just quietly released with comparatively less notice that he ordered power rates to stay at the cap for *days* longer than needed in last year's winter power outages.

However, that's only half the problem. It's much more likely that a zealous, Christian, Republican neighbor or nurse would report a family to CPS and a zealous, Christian, Republican CPS agent would make the family's life hell and even temporarily remove the children, no DA needed.

The CPS agent shows up to be a complete asshat and 'determines' that the kids have to be removed. The parents decide (as any real parent would I would think) that this is not going to happen. The CPS person decides to try and be a 'tough person' and attempts to physically remove the kids, who are screaming to be left alone and for their parents to save them. The Texas parents decide to fire a few rounds into the person to get them to let their kids go. The CPS person expires. The parents are charged and brought to trial. They are acquitted because the entire jury decides that the parents were justified in protecting their kids from some tin plated idiot who thinks that the stupid law they passed gives them free reign to pretend to be a jack-booted thug. Of course, the one difference between this outcome and a completely evil one is that they cannot get a religion-free jury and those zealots convict because it was 'one a' them people' and therefore not considered as having the same value as a gawd-fearin', gun toting', hetrosexule, Yahweh worshippin' 'REAL' Texan.

(Which, fortunately, does not describe everyone from Texas. However, it does describe enough of them that the stereotype exists.)

Nazis like Governor Hot Wheels get away with things like this because people let him. It's only by fighting back and pushing back that people like him get stopped.

Furthermore, there is nothing to prosecute as the parents of trans teens are not committing any crime.

Abbott, on the other hand... What would really make my week in what has been a chaotic week would be seeing a DA charge Abbott with child abuse and human rights violations. But, I know. That's a huge step.

...Maybe next week?

Sure don’t have any problems causing pain and discomfort to LGBT kids (and adults, for that matter) but just try to teach them history (not “CRT”…HISTORY) and “Oh heavens to Betsy, HOW could you do such a thing? Won’t ANYONE think of the children???” *sob*

This should go over well. Even Texas Republicans don’t want the government meddling in how they parent. And the Texas child welfare agency has a terrible reputation. A few years ago a Texas judge called it one of the worst in the country, with physical and sexual abuse common. She cited a case of a five-year-old girl repeatedly raped by her caregivers. Many children run away and live on the streets because they have nowhere to go. So, yeah, it’s time for Republicans to target that minority of transgender kids who already are going through difficult transitions. I suppose the idea is to take them away from their parents and place them in evangelical households where their notions of gender differences can be beaten out of them. I hope Beto makes use of this nonsense in his campaign. Texas Republicans want parents to not allow their children to learn actual history, but parents have no say in the physical and mental health of their children.
