Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Belarus. Live!

The negotiators of Russia and Ukraine can feel completely safe in Belarus. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei before the start of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

"Dear friends, the President of Belarus asked me to meet you, welcome you and ensure your work as much as possible. As was agreed with Presidents Zelensky and Putin, you can feel completely safe. This is our sacred duty," the Foreign Minister said.

The Ukrainian and Russian delegations are holding their first talks in Belarus. The parties are meeting near the Ukrainian border on the banks of the Pripyat River in the Gomel region. Due to security concerns, the location of the meeting has not been released. But among themselves, the organizers of the talks call it "the fisherman's house."

As reported, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a series of high-level contacts to organize peaceful Russian-Ukrainian talks in Belarus.

On February 27, Alexander Lukashenko called his Ukrainian colleague Vladimir Zelensky. The politicians agreed that the Ukrainian delegation would meet with the Russian one without preconditions at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border near the Pripyat River.

It may not be going as he wanted though.

He probably had planned to already be in full control of the capital at least. And be negotiating from a "strength" position. But in a typical Russian fashion, he set this up to be able to say..."see?...we are negotiators not warmongers".....after the fact. And then, negotiate some agreement to keep Russian troops in the country, and keep the break away regions. And have Ukraine sign a declaration to never join NATO or allow western troops in its country.

I sure hope Ukraine doesn't fall for this. And in fact any prerequisite for any agreement MUST also include reparations for all the civilian deaths, and property and infrastructure damage done while invading. Any agreement should include that he leave with his tail between his legs, with only a vague promise that any real negotiations for normalcy are in the future. And it depends on Russia's behaviour in the next decade.

15. Initial Talks Between Russia and Ukraine Yield No Resolution

KYIV, Ukraine — Initial talks between Russia and Ukraine concluded without result on Monday evening, with both delegations returning from the site of the negotiations in Belarus to their capitals for consultations.

Kyiv is seeking a cease-fire in Ukraine and an end to hostilities, according to Mihailo Podolyak, a member of the Ukrainian delegation.

“The parties identified a number of priority topics in which certain solutions were outlined,” he said after the discussions ended. “In order to get some opportunities for implementation and logistical solutions, the parties are returning to their capitals for consultations.”

The Kremlin wants its security demands taken into account “unconditionally,” President Vladimir V. Putin told the French president, Emmanuel Macron, as talks were underway. Those include the recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea, and “demilitarizing and denazifying the Ukrainian state and ensuring its neutral status,” meaning that it gives up a right to join the NATO alliance.

I other words Russia wants Ukraine to be a puppet state.
