Gov. Kim Reynolds of Iowa uses G.O.P. response to blast Biden over 'runaway inflation.'

Source: New York Times/Glenn Thrush

Gov. Kim Reynolds of Iowa delivered a scathing Republican rebuke of President Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, casting his presidency as an unwanted remake of “That ‘70s Show,” complete with “runaway inflation,” rampant crime and a rampaging “Soviet army.”

Ms. Reynolds, who was chosen by Republican Senate leadership to deliver the party’s official response, portrayed the populist revolt against mask mandates and remote learning as a “pro-parent, pro-family revolution,” hoping to harness the backlash ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

The governor, who has been in that office since 2017, used her address to preview themes, poll-tested and echoed by conservatives on social media, that are likely to be repeated by Republican candidates across the country as they seek to seize control of Congress two years after the party lost the White House and Senate. That included stoking fears that the Biden administration — and Democrats — want to control what children can learn in school and whether parents should have a say.

“We are tired of politicians who tell parents they should sit down, be silent and let government control their kids’ education and future,” she said.

As usual, the Repughlican "platform" is thinner than a tissue. The Democratic Party needs to hammer the word that they have nothing to offer except stoking false fears and counter these Repughlican fairy tales with the truth of reality in terms even Trumplicans can understand. Which means following the rule they adhere to: "keep it simple, stupid."

If this is the Democratic response to "runaway inflation" we're fucked come November. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news to some of you that seem oblivious to it. When stuff at the store is going up 20-30-40% in a shot that's not a "non-issue"

Inflation is NOT caused by one political party. It's caused by a multitude of factors of which many are uncontrollable. It's easy to blame the party in charge when you're out of power. But it also shows no leadership to whine like babies. Which is the Repughlican trait.

And we know which party loves capitalism & tax breaks for the wealthy.
If we could make the midterms about "Vote Your Pocketbook", it should help us.
Plus tie inflation to big business greed.

1. See we are not a misogynist -- we put this woman in the VP slot... plus she's a white woman , not like that uppity Harris woman
2. She is the perfect anti-intellectual .... she was elected Lt Gov as a college drop out and got a degree part time at tax payer expense while not doing her job. She can also campaign that she was in charge of the Iowa Governor STEM initiative even before she was governor. A key initiative that had a budget of about $12 million, or roughly the same size as a smal distrct of 1300 students but with the responsibility of improving STEM education and STEM careers in Iowa state wide....
3. She will look positively brilliant next to DeathSantis --

Covid Kimmy is a disgrace but she was pushed by the Koch's so she really could be the next VP candidate

Unfortunately, she is a rag from my home state of Iowa I'm sorry to say!! Her speech was the most negative, mean and hateful speech I've ever heard.

President Biden gave all of us exactly what we need right now......hope, he was brilliant. We need to focus on the good and positive right now after fighting a war with Covid for 2 years and now another war with Russia. This whole country and the world needs HOPE!! Not negative diatribe.

President Biden's speech was one filled with HOPE!! Thank you President Biden!!

Here is a thought. How about letting teachers, school administrators, and school boards
control what is taught in schools? And if the parents of the students want to volunteer
and help out the schools I am sure they would be more than welcome to do just that.

BTW just a suggestion for today's home page. How about a picture of President Biden,
w/V.P. Harris, and Speaker Pelosi with the words under or over it, "This is what REAL
Leadership Looks Like."

But this is just politics as usual. Republicans only care about one thing THEIR money. That’s it. Everything is tailored around that to of course blame the opposition party the Democrats for anything that is going bad with the economy, wars, pandemics, you name it etc. So all they need to do is come up with deflection items so they can get back to the one thing that is all consuming with them, which is THEIR wallet and of course fuck the poor people. Just your good old boy selfish one-way fucks.

and all she did was talk in circles.....this dumb POS had to have her kids vaccinated prior to going into a class room....or did she not do that?
She herself had to have a list of vaccinations done prior to her going into a class room....and if she didn't and had gotten sick, then she more than likely would have serious issues today and possibly not be here....so for her to go around a spew her shit, maybe she should step down and have someone in that position with more principles do the job along with the entire right wing neo-fascists party being voted out of office in that state, because after all she and them also have blood on her pseudo-pro-life fucking hands......

I wonder what she thinks of mercenaries.....trying to assassinate a democratically elected leader in UKRAINE, her caucus had a leader that was trying to blackmail the UKRAINE leader and was trying to dismantle NATO....maybe someone in the media should ask her....since she is a member of the right wing fascist caucus supporting the GOP cause......

Wed Mar 2, 2022, 12:58 PM

Look up what Paul Volcker did. Allegedly he "cured" inflation by implementing sky-high interest rates. The end result was a recession.

Inflation is a termed coined to give an economic name to a psychological greed/fear response. Uncertainty and declining margins drive it. Remember that there is profit in chaos.

I really wish that Biden had said something like this in the State of the Union:

"I know that the US has experienced severe inflation of (whatever the percent was last year). But some of our allies have suffered worse such as Turkey which experienced 73% inflation last year. And what they, and we, are experiencing has to do with the worldwide economic recovery from the pandemic as people are going back to work, and needing more goods, at the precise point in time that supplies of goods were at record lows because people hadn't been out working every day.

"And that shortage of goods was made even worse due to the global supply chain problems which has prevented goods from being manufactured, shipped, then arriving as quickly as we're used to. And it is those problems of shortages and supply chain problems which have created this worldwide inflation, rather than specifically policies from my administration, as some critics have claimed.

We're working together with out allies to solve the world's supply chain problems and we're...."
