Russia will stop 'in a moment' if Ukraine meets terms - Kremlin
Source: Reuters
Russia has told Ukraine it is ready to halt military operations "in a moment" if Kyiv meets a list of conditions, the Kremlin spokesman said on Monday.
Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was demanding that Ukraine cease military action, change its constitution to enshrine neutrality, acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory, and recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent states. It was the most explicit Russian statement so far of the terms it wants to impose on Ukraine to halt what it calls its "special military operation", now in its 12th day.
But the Kremlin spokesman insisted Russia was not seeking to make any further territorial claims on Ukraine and said it was "not true" that it was demanding Kyiv be handed over.
The outlining of Russia's demands came as delegations from Russia and Ukraine prepared to meet on Monday for a third round of talks aimed at ending Russias war against Ukraine.
"For the rest. Ukraine is an independent state that will live as it wants, but under conditions of neutrality."

(5,255 posts)If those are really their demands - not including Kyiv - then they are really dealing from a position of considerable weakness. Not that Ukraine should take those terms, but they're far less sweeping than they could be. Not surprising, really.

(12,293 posts)He has made a total mess of everything ....blood really on his hands this time...his economy was already in the toilet and his military was a " BLUFF" ...yet he has nuclear bombs...
I foresee a negotiated agreement with some sanctions lifted....He may end up with a small piece of northeast Ukraine, say Dombas ( spelling off on this)...and call it a win...negotiated...
I say keep tight sanctions but give a little wiggle room/ restricted ....don't give up Odessa or coastal if they can....he does want to control much of the Black Sea....
I thought this could be negotiated by June...Biden lead the pack on the sanctions that suffocates Putin...
**** In negotiations they, Ukraine need some type of defense treaty agreement so that this never happens again and US troops can help kick ass...something along those lines...

(7,430 posts)UKR should, IMO, insist on total Russian evacuation. Frozen or confiscated Russian assets should be transferred to a Ukraine rebuilding and reconstruction fund. They must pay for their destruction.
Ground to ground missile attacks will end because of UKR's enhanced military buildup. Air to ground attacks will be met by increased UKR air defenses and increased numbers of jet fighters.
Sanctions should increase and be long lasting, far beyond any terms of a cease fire. No circuit boards, no nanotechnology, no materials for digital communications. NONE- Until Russia pays for the human and material damages BEFORE any lessening of sanctions.

(7,430 posts)He is leveraging Russian bombardments with keeping Crimea and the eastern provinces. That was his interest before the invasion. He couldn't negotiate for Ukraine's land without the invasion. He had no leverage. But now he can use his military as leverage.
It won't work. Putin will eventually come to understand it, but not without severe losses to his military and his economy. His emotions have overtaken his reasoning ability. No one is prepared to join Putin in his attempts to destroy a country. His people are increasingly upset, the oligarchs are losing their enthusiasm, and his generals are having private conversations about changing course. But Putin is still in a self-imposed bubble. He's not unlike a lot of autocrats who eventually meet their doom. He's proven that he cannot be a world player, and the rest of the world is aware of his dangerous patterns. For as long as he's in power, Russia will claim the status of pariah state.

What's old is new again-
I have only a few statements still to make. I am grateful to Mr Chamberlain for all his efforts. I have assured him that the German people desires nothing else than peace, but I have also told him that I cannot go back behind the limits set to our patience. I have further assured him, and I repeat it here, that when this problem is solved there is for Germany no further territorial problem in Europe.
And I have further assured him that at the moment when Czechoslovakia solves her problems, that means when the Czechs have come to terms with their other minorities, and that peaceably and not through oppression, then I have no further interest in the Czech state. And that is guaranteed to him! We want no Czechs!
But in the same way I desire to state before the German people that with regard to the problem of the Sudeten Germans my patience is now at an end! I have made Mr Benes an offer which is nothing but the carrying into effect of what he himself has promised. The decision now lies in his hands: peace or war. He will either accept this offer and now at last give to the Germans their freedom or we will go and fetch this freedom for ourselves

We do not want your tired and sick.
It is your corrupt we claim.
It is your evil that will be sought by us.
With every breath, we shall hunt them down.
Each day, we will spill their blood till it rains down from the skies.
Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace.
These are not polite suggestions. These are codes of behavior, and those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost.
There are varying degrees of evil. We urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over into true corruption, into our domain.
For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three. And on that day, you will reap it.
And we will send you to whatever god you wish.

Edit: Forgot to add that the sanctions on Russia should remain in place even if the Ukrainian government agrees since this would be an agreement that was made under duress.
