Accused Russian Agent Gave to One Politician: Tulsi Gabbard
Source: Daily Beast
Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii and 2020 presidential dark horse candidate, has long perplexed U.S. officials and observers with her seemingly inexplicable pro-Russian positions. And a new development this week is sure to reinforce the half-jokes that Gabbard is a Russian asset; as it turns out, her campaign took money from one.
That agentdual Russian-American national Elena Branson, also known as Elena Chernykhstands accused of illegally pushing pro-Russia policies in the United States for nearly a decade, at the direction of top Kremlin officials, without registering under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), according to a criminal complaint federal prosecutors filed this week in the Southern District of New York.
But, in all her time lobbying for Russian goals, she gave money to just one federal candidate: Gabbard.
According to Federal Election Commission records, an Elena Branson made two donations in 2019 to Gabbards presidential campaign. The filings tie the donation to Bransons former address at a million-dollar condo on Central Park West. However, the merchant banker listed her occupation as not employed. (Branson lived in the United States for decades and holds American citizenship, so the contributions were legal.)

In her 20-minute speech, Gabbard attempted to balance two opposing viewpoints: the idea of a common foundation in the American public, and the idea of a powerful elite aimed at canceling and silencing those who speak out against the government.
She touched on multiple themes prevalent throughout the 2022 gatheringfree speech, an authoritarian Canada, and the idea that President Joe Biden views those who push back on him as domestic terrorists.
What theyre telling us is you are an enemy of the state, she said. If you dare to oppose or even question the president, his administration, or his policies, shut up, step back fall in line, or were coming after you. This isnt some theory. This is reality.

(19,199 posts)I don't remember Tulsi saying anything like that about Donald Trump, and he exemplified everything she's talking about.
In her 20-minute speech, Gabbard attempted to balance two opposing viewpoints: the idea of a common foundation in the American public, and the idea of a powerful elite aimed at canceling and silencing those who speak out against the government. Gee, she never complained about Trump calling the media "the enemy of the people".
She touched on multiple themes prevalent throughout the 2022 gatheringfree speech, an authoritarian Canada, and the idea that President Joe Biden views those who push back on him as domestic terrorists. No Tulsi, wrong again. Canada is anything but authoritarian, and Biden has never called anyone who "pushes back" domestic terrorists. He's called the Proud Boys and other pseudo-militias "domestic terrorists", which they are. Trump told them to "stand back and stand by" for his planned attack on the Capitol. Not a word from Ms. Gabbard about that, was there?
What theyre telling us is you are an enemy of the state, she said. If you dare to oppose or even question the president, his administration, or his policies, shut up, step back fall in line, or were coming after you. This isnt some theory. This is reality. Tulsi, you - like everyone else in the right wing propaganda business - wouldn't recognize reality if it came up and bit you in the ass. Again, it's strange Tulsi was silent when this crap was really going on in the Trump administration!
Up yours, Tulsi, you Russian apologist and asset. You should be totally ashamed of yourself, but you'd need a conscience for that.

A dual national of the United States and Russia who ran an "I Love Russia" influence campaign has been charged with acting illegally as an unregistered agent of the Russian government, federal prosecutors in New York said on Tuesday.
Elena Branson, 61, faces six criminal counts over allegations by prosecutors that she failed to register with the U.S. government as a foreign government agent and participated in a visa fraud conspiracy. She left the United States for Russia in 2020 and remains at large, prosecutors said.
The charges coincide with the United States seeking to put Russia under pressure with economic sanctions because of its invasion of Ukraine.
"Particularly given current global events, the need to detect and hinder attempts at foreign influence is of critical importance," Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan said in a statement. ............

In freaking rural South Carolina. Same coming back that stretch. Expensive for someone running in Hawaii. Sure smelled like rotting fish.

Last night she went on Tucker Carlson's show and repeated Putin's insidious lie that there are Ukrainian chemical weapons labs, thus helping Putin establish a pretext for using chemical weapons on Ukrainian civilians. Gabbard demanded that the "labs funded by the US need to be shut down immediately." It was absolutely loathesome.

(9,008 posts)I often wonder why those politicians who take big donations tend to support those who gave them donations.
Did you have a pro-company attitude, which prompts companies to give you money? Or did the donations persuade you to support those companies?
Why can't strong-minded people take the money and do the "right thing" anyway? Money might dry up?
Perhaps Tulsi should move to Russia to get some real perspective
