Uber adds fuel surcharge, citing high gas prices

Source: NBC News

The company said the fees will go to drivers, who are responsible for paying for gas they use.

By Kif Leswing, CNBC

Uber is adding a surcharge on fares and deliveries in the U.S. and Canada in response to surging gas prices, the company said Friday.

Riders taking Uber trips will pay a fee of $0.45 to $0.55 per trip, and Uber Eats deliveries will include a $0.35 to $0.45 surcharge, the company said. The fees are temporary and will last for at least two months.

The company said the fees will go to drivers, who are responsible for paying for gas they use.

The surcharges can vary based on trip distance and gas prices in each state. They won’t apply in New York City because drivers already received a 5.3 percent pay increase on March 1, accounting for the increase in gas costs, Uber said.

Do they add a peak time multipler to that too? So a $10 off-peak ride will be $800 on peak 🤣 TheBlackAdder Mar 2022 #2

The reliable “gas prices too high…or too low” narrative of the America corporate propagandists is failing them.

Actually I m only outraged at corporate media for the insulting concern trolling.

Usually, it's 3kuai in smaller citizens and as much as 10kuai in larger cities.

They also inflate the fares in off-peak hours. In Shanghai, the base fare goes from 12kuai to 20kuai between midnight and 6AM.

like this our sacrifice in whatever realm is small compared to the slaughter, Putin is causing. We are in a proxy war with Russia, Syria proved that to me. When trump abandoned the Kurds I hoped we could elect a POTUS that would help to somewhat rectify the damage the trump crime family committed against Americans and all our allies. And he is still grifting those treasonous clowns that support a traitor. Damn sad state of affairs in Ukraine that trump helped facilitate.

$.55 per trip? So it's the same for a trip of 2 or 20 miles?

Ask UPS how they calculate their fuel surcharge on package delivery. Come up with a benchmark (say what the average price/gal was when you started - mine was $1.50 in Dec 2015 - and base it on distance of the ride. Cost of gas is the #1 variable in our costs to drive.

What will happen is that people will quit drive Uber/Lyft because they can't afford to put gas in tank and those surge prices are going to go thru the roof.
