BAGHDAD (AP) Iran claimed responsibility Sunday for a missile barrage that struck near a sprawling U.S. consulate complex in northern Iraq, saying it was retaliation for an Israeli strike in Syria that killed two members of its Revolutionary Guard earlier this week.
No injuries were reported in Sundays attack on the city of Irbil, which marked a significant escalation between the U.S. and Iran. Hostility between the longtime foes has often played out in Iraq, whose government is allied with both countries.
The attack drew harsh condemnation from the Iraqi government, which called it a violation of international law and norms and demanded an explanation from the Iranian leadership.
The United States said the missile strike emanated from Iran and strongly condemned it.

(4,339 posts)Putin is hoping to get the US engaged in war so he can have his tools here in the states use it for propaganda. No coincidence that the orange anus has been spouting how he would have prevented this. All those repuke senators voting against aid to Ukraine and the ever present soap box of Tucker. Just waiting for the tide to shift to become part of the problem and try to make leverage out of Russian tools. Thank god Putin miscalculated and had lies told to him to cover years of graft and corruption. What did he expect? He was such a shining example.

(101,154 posts)This happened to me yesterday with an AP story too: the middle half of my screen is taken up with an ad space (which is blank, probably because I redirected some URLs for ads that were slowing down screen loading). With their logo and menu at the top, this literally leaves me 3 lines of text at the bottom as a letterbox to read the story in. The ad has no way of being dismissed.
