Russia business deals muddy GOP US Senate primary in Ohio

Source: Associated Press

By JULIE CARR SMYTH 31 minutes ago

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Several Republicans competing for the party’s nomination to run for U.S. Senate in Ohio are facing scrutiny for their ties to Russia as the country intensifies its war against Ukraine.

Much of the attention has focused on former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken, whose husband’s family founded a company that does business in Russia. But other candidates in the race to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Rob Portman, including J.D. Vance and Mike Gibbons, also have links to business deals in Russia that could become vulnerabilities in the May 3 primary.

While domestic issues generally dominate midterm political contests, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — with its harrowing images of civilian casualties — has become an animating subject of the competitive Senate race in Ohio, which has a large Ukrainian American population. In a race with several millionaire candidates, the war is highlighting the risks that come with being wealthy and having tangled investment interests involving foreign countries.

he's taken from the Timken family..
Though Mandel's wife has done business with Mikhail Prokhorov
Whether it resonates or not, it appears that anyone who has any ties with Russia, or someone that has ties to anyone who is doing/or has done recent business with Russia is open game

And the Republican primary is a race to polish apples for Trump. Mike Gibbon is atrocious, God help us all. Vance was a never Trumper but Peter Thiel is behind him, and now he is more trump than trump. But again, Ohio, Mike DeWine as Governor did a good job on Covid the first year. He has always been feckless, but he actually followed the science, the medicine, and was a competent executive. The Repub party quickly labeled him a RINO and terrorized our Health Director out of office. Now he signed a no permit, no training concealed carry law specifically pandering to the extremists. Gonna be a tough election season here.

Politically, Ohio has turned to crap.

But like many states the cities are blue and the rest of the state is Alabama.

I am so over the “real ‘Murican” bullshit.

I say that not because I like people to do business in Russia, but because I'm so sick of Mike Gibbons' endless "Trump tough" commercials. Please, please, take him out of the running.

country, in this case Russia should be off the list for anyone, not only because of the invasion of Ukraine, just because of the history of the two countries, because of Putin.

No USA business should have done deal with Russia unless their government changes, they all knew a long time ago the shady characters, the crooks they would be dealing with, but then again "God creates them, then they find each other".

Putin loving GOP candidates are up against the wall. Cut ads showing Ukrainians being driven from their destroyed homes and say “Candidate X Did This!”
