BOISE, Idaho (AP) A major Boise hospital went on lockdown for about an hour Tuesday after far-right activist Ammon Bundy urged supporters to go the facility in protest of a child protection case involving one of his family friends.
St. Lukes Health System put the Boise Medical Center on lockdown and began diverting incoming patients at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Safety is our top priority, the hospital said in a statement. At this time, anyone in need of care should seek alternative health care providers and options. We ask that people please avoid the area near the Boise hospital until further notice.

Why is this not a form of intimidation and blackmail....and basically threatening anyone associated with the hospital....which I think is against the rule of law if they have any in Idaho anymore....

(13,551 posts)that about pretty much any state these days. Im in SH MO. At least its in a more Democratic leaning area-a little bit.
Idaho gets a bad wrap but we Democrats need to be changing minds everywhere, all the time.

(9,998 posts)The last time a Democrat got more than 51% in a Presidential Election, was in 1940, when FDR got 54%.
The last time a Democrat won the Electoral votes there was LBJ in 1964 with 50.92%.
President Biden got 33% to TFG's 63.84% in 2020. Hillary managed 27.5% in 2016.
I'm obviously not going to change your mind about just how far gone your home state is, so I'll bow out of this discussion. The numbers don't lie, and the #'s for Democrats in your state is a wasteland.

(9,998 posts)I think that putting money into a state where the highest % a Democratic candidate for President has received since 1964, was 37% in 1976, is unwise. Where LBJ is the only Democrat since Truman to win the electoral votes.
If you could show me that there is any chance for a Democratic victory in Idaho, then I would totally support spending money there. That money could be spent in bubble states like AZ or GA, where the Democrats can get needed victories.

(111,339 posts)First, there are races other than that for president. Most candidates for that job have come up through the ranks and that means running for lesser jobs and winning the races, something they can do in a few places in Idaho.
Second, sending party money only to races that are considered easy to win shrinks the pool of such races every election cycle, as races a Democrat has lost are no longer considered easy to win and therefore worthy of party investment.
There are currently 7 state Senators and 12 serving in the Idaho House. Idaho isn't a totally lost cause and shouldn't be treated as such.

And of course there are Democrats in Idaho. There are Democrats in Every state. That doesn't mean there will come a time when a state like Idaho is voting for a Democrat, or awarding it's Electoral votes to a Democrat.
The highest % a Democrat has received in the last 12 Presidential Elections, was Carter in 1976, with 37.1%.
It's certainly not your fault that you live there, but your state is what it is. Don't you have a large concentration of White Supremacists there? I don't think we have that here in So Cal.

(1,732 posts)Calling Idaho what you have and then claiming a large concentration of white supremacists is quite the broad brush. Don't throw stones in a glass house. Unless of course you're here trolling.

(641 posts)ID is advertising itself as a haven for "conservatives" and I use that term loosely. Ruby Ridge/Randy Weaver was 30 years ago and given Ammon Bundy and others of his ilk, things have not gotten better.

(13,582 posts)Idaho was a Democratic state. One of our democratic governors went on to become Jimmy Carters Sec. of the Interior - Cecil Andrus. One of our democratic Senators held hearings on CIA abuses and later ran for President - Frank Church. Our state also had one of the first unions in America protecting the rights of miners back in the 1880s. So what happened? We became a democratic flyover state. The party fed us to the wolves financially. Then republicans rolled in - a thousand UHauls at a time from
California.
As for White Supremacists - theyre mostly gone. We sued their asses right out of the state, own their name and their compound property which is now a peace park. Ill bet their are more white supremacists in California than there are in Idaho now. Trumpers - now that we got.
Idaho has its problems but there are folks working hard to change that. Will it happen in a month or a year. Probably not. But somebodys got to be here to push back against the same forces we see nation wide.

(9,998 posts)But the stats show that in the last 80 years, only 1 Democrat has won the Electoral votes, and that was barely with 51%.

For those who don't quite get the reference:
James Warren Jones (May 13, 1931 November 18, 1978) was an American cult leader, political activist, preacher, and faith healer who between 1955 and 1978 led the Peoples Temple, a new religious movement. In what he described as "revolutionary suicide", Jones and his inner circle orchestrated a mass murdersuicide in his remote jungle commune at Jonestown, Guyana, on November 18, 1978. Jones and the events at Jonestown have had a defining influence on society's perception of cults.

(1,688 posts)This is about the disintegration of the concept of the United States of America and a society.
This isnt, never was and never will be about freedom. It is about the abdication of any responsibility and then the demand that government burst fully formed from the brow of Zeus.
This is about my rights and fuck you when my rights collide with yours.
Time to break up the country. Do it civilly or it will get done violently.
And dont say young people will do better. Gen X is just as shitty as the Baby Boomers ( I am a Boomer) and so on. Stupidity, hatred and ignorance have always existed and will always exist.
Finally, if the country is not broken up then until the constitution is changed or a new one created money needs to be spent everywhere to try and stem the tide of evil.
