Audit: NY Health Department under Cuomo 'misled the public' on nursing home deaths
Source: The Hill
A New York Department of Health audit released on Tuesday found that former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) failed to publicly account for the deaths of 4,100 nursing home residents in New York during the coronavirus pandemic between April 2020 and February 2021.
The audit from state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli indicated that Health Department officials underreported the death toll by up to 50 percent and concluded that the Health Department fell short of its "ethical" and "moral" obligations to report numbers accurately.
But internally, the department had the more accurate data. As of Feb. 3, 2021, the administration's internal data reported 13,147 nursing home resident deaths, but only 9,076 deaths were publicly reported, meaning more than 30 percent of deaths were not made public, the report showed.
"Rather than providing accurate and reliable information during a public health emergency, the department instead conformed its presentation to the executive's narrative, often presenting data in a manner that misled the public," the audit report said.

(10,072 posts)Though they then started to track them as a separate number. They finally gave up. I'm not sure they ever got added back in the state wide numbers
For the first year or so of COVID, TN had the lowest death rate to number of cases in the world. It was almost miraculous. But then they gave up on that fake number too.
So, I wouldn't trust any state to accurately report death counts, especially a red state.

women, however, tell me, what other government employee in this entire country, or planet for that matter, has stood up and called out t**** for all his criminal activities? On a daily basis nonetheless. On tv.
Also, as far as the nursing home disaster, you have to take into consideration when this occurred, deep into the beginning of the pandemic when t**** and kids were selling off ppe and setting states against each other in biding wars to buy ppe.
Ill take misinformation with death numbers any day over telling people to inject bleach into their bodies.
Im not forgetting how Cuomo was the only beacon of hope when NY and the rest of the world were suffering a pandemic not seen in a century. And during an administration that tried every tactic to thwart solutions and truths for and about the pandemic.

Did you mean ppe? Just checking.
