Fauci warns of potential rise in U.S. COVID cases as funding runs dry

Source: Seattle Times

The U.S. could soon see COVID-19 cases rise again and vulnerable people are likely to need a fourth vaccine dose, one of President Joe Biden’s top health advisers warned as the White House calls for more money to fight the pandemic.

Anthony Fauci, the longtime head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a Biden adviser, said U.K. officials are already warning him of an increase there driven by the BA. 2 sub-variant, easing restrictions and waning protection from vaccines, and that the U.S. tends to be a few weeks behind case curves in the U.K.

“We have all three of those factors right now in this country,” Fauci said in an interview Thursday. “I would predict that we are going to see a bit of an increase, or at least a flattening out and plateauing of the diminution of cases. And the question is how do we deal with that.”

250K - 500K Annual Covid Deaths will be the norm going forward. We're almost at the point where the media won't even bother dwelling on them, because they're essentially a fact of life in America.

A perpetual Pandemic state, although some may attempt to call it Endemic. That's so far from the truth.

"COVID cases predicted to rise in coming weeks because of new BA.2 variant
BA.2 makes up 23% of new COVID cases, up from 7% two weeks ago.

Experts fear that COVID-19 cases in the United States will rise in the next few weeks as the new BA.2 variant continues to spread.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows BA.2, which is a subvariant of omicron, has been tripling in prevalence every two weeks.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said given the growing prevalence of BA.2, he expects cases will increase within the next month.

"I would expect that we might see an uptick in cases here in the United States because, only a week or so ago, the CDC came out with their modification of the metrics for what would be recommended for masking indoors, and much of the country right now is in that zone, where masking indoors is not required," Fauci told ABC affiliate KGTV Wednesday.

Fauci added that he believes BA.2 will become the dominant variant in the country, surpassing the original omicron variant."

Several European countries -- such as Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom -- have reported a spike in COVID-19 over the last couple of weeks.

In the U.K., 93,943 cases were recorded Wednesday, according to Johns Hopkins University, more than double the 45,303 recorded two weeks earlier.

Fauci said he is encouraged that BA.2 does not appear to cause more severe disease, but warned if the U.S. experiences another COVID wave, Americans must be willing to readopt mitigation measures -- and other experts agree."

Bathing suits restrict our freedoms. Take 'em off when you're on the beach. Let beach-goers be free and naked.

It seems like its come to a point of virus fatigue, everywhere.

There is no appetite at all to return to the most restrictive mandates. Even among those who have been diligent about following the CDC's advice so far.

Its now a matter of Darwin's Law. I will also gladly line up for my 4th shot. I feel sorry for those who cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, or have very compromised immune systems etc...but there is a tipping point. The vast majority can take their boosters, and go on with their lives.

And any anti-vaxers out there are dead set in their choice, and more of them will still be hospitalized and die.

The main point of social distancing, masks, and vaccines was to flatten the curve so that hospitals can handle the peak times of infection. To make the pandemic more manageable. That's over now, we did it. Going forward we will have to accept deaths related to COVID from the two extremes...those more vulnerable to getting seriously ill because of age and respiratory issues, AND the whacky nutbar antivaxers mostly on the far right indoctrinated by RW media, but also those in the holistic new age left.
