China's Vice Foreign Minister blames NATO for war in Ukraine

Source: Axios

China's vice foreign minister on Saturday blamed NATO for the war in Ukraine and criticized the West's sanctions against Russia, AP reports.

Driving the news: Le Yucheng speaking at a conference in Beijing called NATO a "Cold War vestige," warning that its expansion could cause "repercussions too dreadful to contemplate," per AP.

"Sanctions against Russia are now going to such lengths that globalization is used as a weapon, even people from the sports, cultural, art and entertainment communities are not spared," he also said.
The big picture: Le's remarks come one day after President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke about the war, with Biden describing "the implications and consequences if China provides material support to Russia," according to a White House readout of the call.

China has not publicly condemned or defended Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but Chinese officials and state media have largely put the blame on the U.S. and the West, Axios' Dave Lawler reports.

"Beijing called NATO a "Cold War vestige," warning that its expansion could cause "repercussions too dreadful to contemplate,"

And Not a word about the brutal destruction of a country, its cities nor its people either fleeing or being bombed to death.
So, Let's take the spotlight off the horror of the Ukrainians & place it on the inconveniences of Putin's Russian people:

Sanctions against Russia are now going to such lengths that globalization is used as a weapon, even people from the sports, cultural, art and entertainment communities are not spared," he also said

and that is why the attacking country is being sanctioned. Plus, sanction will be lifted once viable legitimate agreement is made where Russia signs in blood that they will never ever attack Ukraine or any other Independent Country again.

Such a large percentage of the goods that we buy today are made in China. Of course on the flip side, China's robust economy relies heavily on the U.S. to thrive, so taking Russia's side in this war could really hurt them financially. Supporting Russia is really a losing proposition in so many ways.

when I decided not to buy anything "Made in China". I was shocked at the time to see how much merchandise came from China, but there still were plenty of alternatives. Sadly, that is no longer the case. With many items, it is go with Chinese goods or go without. That isn't too big a burden for me, as I don't really buy much these days.

Though it seemed rather gradual, it actually happened quite quickly. I remember when Walmart pushed manufacturers to move their companies overseas, especially to China, so they could offer cheaper prices. They either complied or went out of business. Then their competitors followed suit.

There is plenty of blame to go around and the American consumer's appetite for cheaper and cheaper goods didn't help. No more "Look for the Union Label", most labels say, "Made in China". Now we live in a country where many people can't afford housing and healthcare, but "stuff" is really cheap. It can't possibly be sustainable.

The only thing I could possibly add to that is the fact that when wages do not keep pace with expenses - people are driven to cheap junk out of necessity. As you said, there is plenty of blame to go around.

They don't want NATO to win, but they don't want Russia to win either. The best case scenario for China would be for both NATO and Russia to come out of the war weakened, but it looks like they will settle for a weak Russia for now.

Terms, terms.

Proof is always in the pudding.

The current scum-of-the-earth took over the Grand Old Party Repubilcans (GOP) and turned it into a mouthpiece of the old communist state (which they originally reviled.) The party of Lincoln was corrupted to be the party of the dixiecrats.

I think we need a better citizenship test for anyone who plans to hold public office. First find out if they even know the basics of government, then the US constitution. Then have them sign a binding statement that their future employment will be summarily terminated if they ever perform acts that are contrary to their sworn duties. Summarily. Can appeal but not while holding office. Penalties and jail time if convicted.

Among the founders were Portugal, ruled by a dictator. Invited in was Greece and Turkey, at that time both authoritarian regimes. Turkey is still giving problems, now backed up by similar rulers in Hungary and Poland. All NATO's wars has been fought in close alliances with Middle Eastern dictators, none of them better than Putin...

Good luck on making "Democracies United", but NATO is not the foundation for such.

Because now of course Portugal is a truly functional socialist system, dominated by social democrats.

But man their history is full of dictators, fascists and corporate control. Wow, how many Constitutions did they go through????

But yeah, when NATO was first created they did have a dictatorship. But now they are an amazing blend of socialism and democracy.

Maybe out of the ashes of a failed Russian war and their gone crazy, bubble boy Czar Vladimir Putin will come a functional social democracy.

Portugal gives me hope. Out of something bad can come something very good. I think that happened with NATO.

And NATO can Not make a Russian Czar do anything. He, Czar Vladimir Putin, has to decide for himself like he decides for all of Russia.

The revolution away from dictatorship was not greeted with pleasure by the United States. During the coup in 1974 NATO troops were due to land for "military exercises" in Lisboa, but were refused permission to land. Spain contacted Henry Kissinger, and said they had plans to go to war to beat the commies in Portugal. United States itself were preparing to seize the Azores. Lots of interesting history there!

With the junta gone, Kissinger were preparing to throw Portugal out of NATO. The NATO membership had been very important for the junta in Portugal, who gave NATO access to military exercises in their Portuguese colonies. Portugal's wars in Africa to keep the colonies would not have continued for long without NATO weaponry and equipment. But a new democratically elected government was too much for NATO, since it might include a few COMMUNISTS!
