Huge Crowds Turn Out for Funeral of Israeli Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi

Source: Reuters

BNEI BRAK, Israel (Reuters) - The funeral of a revered ultra-Orthodox Israeli rabbi drew huge crowds of mourners to a religious suburb of Tel Aviv on Sunday, with police expecting hundreds of thousands of people to attend.

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, a leading authority on Jewish law, died on Saturday at the age of 94 in Bnei Brak, an ultra-Orthodox city near Israel's commercial capital.

Since the departed Rabbi was a huge supporter of the restrictions during the pandemic, strongly encouraged all his followers to get vaccinated, compared those who didn't follow guidelines as murderers, and placed stricter Covid prevention guidelines on followers of his sect than the Israeli health ministry did

Why would it be a spreader event? And even if it was, most of them would get the sniffles.

Info about vaccine effectiveness has consistently been coming from Israeli studies before it comes from any other country. The world has benefitted from these studies.

So I’d say their citizens have earned the right to mourn their dead as they see fit.

I didn't agree with all that he said. (i.e. Not selling smartphones, but burning them. There are some things in smartphones that should be recycled)
He did step up when Covid-19 struck
- One of the things he told his followers was, the best ways to defeat the virus, was to put other's needs above your own (unlike many fundamentalist evangelical ministers in the U.S.)
- He chastised those who didn't follow the Health Ministry's instructions as being in rotzeach -- a murderer
- Ruled that members could answer the phone on the Sabbath to find out test results
- That Minyanim must not meet during the pandemic
- He endorsed vaccinations -- not bleach and not ivermectin though
