LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia demanded that Ukrainians in the besieged city of Mariupol lay down their arms Monday in exchange for safe passage out of town, but Ukraine rejected the offer.

The Russian demand came hours after Ukrainian authorities said Moscow’s forces bombed an art school that was sheltering about 400 people.

Russian forces would allow two corridors out of the coastal city, heading either east toward Russia or west to other parts of Ukraine, said Russian Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev.

Mariupol residents were given until 5 a.m. Monday to respond to the offer, which included them raising a white flag. Russia didn’t say what action it would take if the offer was rejected.

Shelter bombed in Ukraine city; war seen entering new phase

By CARA ANNA

LVIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian authorities said Sunday that Russia’s military bombed an art school sheltering some 400 people in the port city of Mariupol, where heavy street fighting is underway weeks into a devastating Russian siege.

The fall of Mariupol would allow Russian forces across southern and eastern Ukraine to link up. But Western military analysts say that even if the surrounded city is taken, the troops battling for control there a block at a time may be too depleted to help secure Russian breakthroughs on other fronts.

Three weeks into the invasion, Western governments and analysts see the conflict shifting to a war of attrition, with bogged down Russian forces launching long-range missiles at cities and military bases as Ukrainian forces carry out hit-and-run attacks and seek to sever their supply lines.

The strike on the art school was the second time in less than a week that local officials reported an attack on a public building where Mariupol residents had taken shelter. A bomb hit a theater where more than 1,000 people were believed to be sheltering on Wednesday.

There is no other way to frame what is happening in Ukraine and I refuse to repeat Russian propaganda.

Russia's media meme is 180* from reality, by design. Russia is the criminal here and set out to perpetrate atrocities. Russia is doing all the things and threatening to do more disgusting things, just like the Nazis did 80 years ago when allied nations stood up to them. Putin and his Russian enablers (everywhere) are the ones who should wear that badge. THEY ARE THE NAZIS! THEY ARE THE ONES COMMITTING GENOCIDE ON THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE.

To stand in front of a World war crimes court and get the justice they deserve for their war atrocities.

Transports with armor observed a couple of days ago from Black Sea region. (Areas included are Armenia, Chechnya, Krasnodar ...)

"Engineering vehicles" are on the move, which includes excavators, good for retrieving "lost" or stuck equipment. (I assume that means that some Ukr soldiers will start carrying charges in order to blow up incapacitated but otherwise functional armored vehicles.)

Estimates are about 20k personnel are available for being redeployed to Ukraine.

But the intensity of movement is less than the month before the invasion.
