Chinese ambassador declines to say Beijing won't provide military supplies, weapons to Russia
Source: The Hill
China's ambassador to the U.S. on Sunday avoided saying Beijing would not sell military supplies and weapons to Russia, insisting that it would maintain "normal" trade relations with one of its closest allies.
Host Margaret Brennan pressed Qin Gang during an appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation" on whether China would join in the West's economic campaign to end Russia's attack on Ukraine. She specifically asked if China would stop sending military and financial support to Russia.
Qin called suggestions that China was providing military assistance to Russia "disinformation."
"What China is doing is send[ing] foods, medicine, sleeping bags and baby formulas, not weapons and ammunition ... to any party. And we [are] against a war, as I said. You know, we will do everything to de-escalate the crisis," Qin said.

(16,949 posts)People in China will approach a subject indirectly, obliquely. I don't expect any Chinese representatives to call a spade a spade. Let's watch what they do. I imagine they are not giving putin a direct answer either.

(6,522 posts)a very different diplomacy stance, while watching them at the UN Security Council meetings. They are very unemotional, very subdued, very dignified. Who knows what they are really thinking.
They do emphasize economics a lot. I believe they are focused on preserving an economic edge. But, if the rumors are true, they did know that Putin planned to invade, and they asked him to wait. Not friendly. But, we'll probably never know for sure. Except that Putin apparently waited for the prior Olympics to be over before taking Crimea.

I'm ready for a law to FORCE companies to remove mfg of critical items; i.e. medicines, electrical grid components, etc; from China.

If they take a stand and it blows up in their face, they lose.
If they support with weapons and Putin loses, they lose.
Non-committal is the best we can get. If you understand Chinese thinking as I do, Beijing is going to stand pat.
The CPC will never come out and give a yes or a no. It isn't in the nature.
