Russia Warns Poland in Lengthy Letter Days Before Joe Biden's Visit
Source: Newsweek
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian security council, on Monday issued a warning to Poland in a lengthy letter, just days before U.S. President Joe Biden is due to visit the country.
"The interests of the citizens of Poland have been sacrificed due to Russophobia of 'mediocre politicians' and their 'puppeteers from across the ocean' with clear signs of senile insanity," the former Russian president and prime minister wrote in a post on his Telegram channel.
Medvedev was referring to a decision made by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki last week to minimize dependence on Russia and sever economic ties with Moscow in response to the Ukraine invasion that began on February 24.
"We will deal with the de-Russification of the Polish and European economy," Morawiecki told a news conference on March 18. "We call for the suspension of activities on the Russian market."

It's not *all* the Russian people. But as of mid-last week, evidence-based thinking would require me to say "majority".

Hinting that Biden is "senile" is kind of funny, given that the American response to Russia's aggressive actions long, long before this particular invasion began is laughable. It's pretty obvious that our current President has his wits together far, far, far more than his predecessor ever did, or ever will.

(35,422 posts)Wierd. He's writing to Poland but it sounds like Medvedev is using r-w American talking points. He deals with it very clumsily. Examples:
"mediocre politicians"
"clear signs of senile insanity"
The rest of it just so nuts! Seriously, we are not dealing with sane people here.
Example:
the Polish elites to swear allegiance to their overlord - America than to help their own citizens, so they will constantly support the fire of hatred for the enemy of Russia," he said, adding that Polish citizens will gain "absolutely nothing" from doing so.
"fire of hatred?"

(6,373 posts)Nobody wanted to take over Russia. Is it just me, or is this logic just twisted beyond belief? They invade Ukraine, bomb it to rubble, murder old people and kids, threaten the rest of the world, and then they say, Oh, you're so unfriendly, why don't you like me? ???
Let's face it, they want control of the Azov Sea, all the seaports on that shoreline, and anything else they think can take. They don't care about anyone or anything else. But, they might start being afraid of NATO, because we are all supporting Ukraine, even if we don't have boots on the ground. Slovakia, Poland and others are NATO. Be careful, Russia. Biden is not senile.

(22,663 posts)call his bluff. If he is not bluffing, he will execute a nuclear attack when NATO defends a member state against invasion. I suggest we draw a line and put our nuclear forces on full alert. If Putin is willing to launch a nuclear attack in support of his maniacal plan to restore the Russian Empire, we should stop him sooner rather than later.
