The House committee investigating the Capitol riot said Thursday that it had set a vote for next week to consider contempt of Congress charges for two aides of former President Donald Trump.
The committee will meet Monday to discuss whether to recommend referring for potential prosecution Trumps former trade adviser, Peter Navarro, and Dan Scavino, the onetime chief of staff for communications.
The committee subpoenaed Navarro for his testimony in early February, seeking to question the Trump ally who promoted false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election. Though Navarro sought to use executive privilege to avoid cooperation, the Biden administration this month denied claims from him and another onetime Trump aide, former national security adviser Michael Flynn. ...........................

A majority vote (51%) from the GJ should not be too hard to get, unless the cases never get there...

(1,120 posts)needs to dispense with the notion that DOJ will pursue any enforcement actions related to their referrals and begin enforcing the matters themselves through their powers related to Inherent Contempt! Referrals to DOJ have proven to be essentially a waste of time and exercise in futility.

(1,120 posts)because I'm anticipating extensive delays and what about all the other referrals? Nothing! Also, I'm well aware that the the Committee does not have the power itself to pursue Inherent Contempt just like they do not have the power make referrals directly to the DOJ regarding Contempt of Congress. It's absolutely critical that they pursue Inherent Contempt while they still maintain control of the House because there's a distinct possibility that this investigation gets swept into the dust bin of history next year.
