Russian cruise missiles suffer high failure rates
Russia is experiencing high cruise missile failure rates upon launch, ranging from "20% to 60%" a senior defense official said this week, citing U.S. assessments.
In many cases, the official noted, the air-launched cruise missiles simply don't release from the rails of the plane that is trying to fire them. Russian planes are currently flying about 300 sorties a day.
Further, Russian forces appear to be running lowest on air-launched cruise missiles and may be trying conserve those missiles, the official said. Though they still have about 50% of their stockpile remaining, the declining stocks of precision-guided missiles is a factor in the increasing use of dumb bombs. Russia's assault on Ukraine, now in its 30th day, has fired 1,260 missiles, according to the official.

(5,936 posts)I'm glad their "precision" munitions seem to work as well as the rest of their military.

Damn. That doesn't sound like a good place to be - a pilot with an armed missile, perhaps triggered, still strapped to the belly of the plane.
Might be a good time to try that eject button.... Whoops, I heard that those were purposefully disabled to stop pilots from defecting.
Sound like a bunch of kamikaze missions.
Were the parachutes sabotaged/disabled?
The predictable result of crappy production standards and typical Putiniste production kwalliteez? (Sorry. "Qualities." Shifted to Ptuin quality stnadrdas. Uh. Putin quality standards. Carp. Sith!)
Or was that really an exception taken to be the rule?

(35,374 posts)Russian soldiers eating expired MREs--and one MRE for every two soldiers!
Meanwhile, Russian Ebay-like sites were flooded with "real, authentic" Russian MREs for $3 each!
Conclusion: Somebody was stealing and selling the MREs instead of feeding Russian soldiers.
(Personally, I'd like to see 25k Russian tanks and missiles for sale on Russian sales websites.)

(9,505 posts)we can safely assume that Russia's threat to use them is 20-60% bullshit.
And what does "upon launch" mean? Which side of the border would that be? Hmmm...

For the US that would include all of the robber barons of years past (Rockefellers, Carnegies, etc.) as well as the new breed (Thiels, Kochs, Mercers). Not sure how to deal with these mega-corps with hidden owners (Vanguard, BlackWater).

(367 posts)I recall several years ago the US launched an attack into Syria with cruise missiles. 47% missed their targets.

They don't want to be pawns and lackeys for Putin's targeting of civilians on their consciences.......
