Biden says Putin is a 'butcher' after he surveyed the refugee crisis in Poland
Source: Insider
President Joe Biden on Saturday called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "butcher" during his visit to Poland.
After meeting Ukrainian refugees at Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland, the president was asked by reporters what the experience brought to mind in his dealings with Putin, CNN reported.
"He's a butcher," Biden responded.

As of mid-March, nearly 10 million Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes as a result of Russia's invasion, which began on February 24. Poland was expected to absorb most of the refugee crisis since the war began. An estimated two million Ukrainian refugees have entered Poland.

(7,398 posts)Putin's actions disqualify him from being a principle in any negotiations regarding UKR. He clearly stated that UKR isn't a country, that it's really Russia. He stated that UKR must be part of Russia, and his invasion specifically was designed to conquer UKR and make it part of his empire. His unflinching rigidity, coupled with his continuing war crimes and crimes against humanity render Putin a toxic leader who will never act in his country's or the world's best interests. That's why, IMO, Putin cannot remain in power. He has no credibility and he will continue to kill with impunity. There is no way that anyone can expect that Putin will keep his word on any international agreement or treaty.
That's why... he's finished.

(6,450 posts)when he said Putin "cannot remain in power".
I'll have to read the transcript when it's available, but to my understanding President Biden didn't say the phrase to be menacing.
From my seat, he was putting it to the Russian people - remove Putin from power.

(7,398 posts)They're still soft on Putin and they still worship Trump. We should never expect Hannity or Carlson or Ingraham to agree with Biden on anything. So when Biden defines Putin as a "butcher", that word will never be repeated by FNC's celebrity anchors.
Biden's pronouncement DOES put the right wing media into a corner. Putin's butchery is obvious to anyone. Now, FNC must contest that frame in order to keep their viewers engaged. If they agree with Biden's frame, they'll lose viewers who will call them a variation of "turncoat" if they're honest.

(5,028 posts)in short skirts, they would lose half their audience. I don't think it matters what President Biden says or does, that network would find fault with it. They even found fault when the government sent almost all of their viewers checks in the mail. The result was they called Biden names and demeaned him while they cashed their checks. It is hard to deal with that kind of brash, baseless hatred.

(8,674 posts). . . or allow it to be normalized that Putin is directly responsible for thousands of deaths. Not only should he not stay in power, but he must also be tried, convicted, and appropriately punished. I am roughly 1.26582278x10-⁸% anti-capital punishment. Willing to adjust that for war criminals.
