Biden says Putin 'cannot remain in power'
Source: CNN
Warsaw, Poland (CNN)President Joe Biden declared forcefully Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin should no longer remain in power, an unabashed challenge that came at the very end of a swing through Europe meant to reinforce Western unity.
"For God's sake, this man cannot remain in power," Biden announced at the conclusion of a capstone address delivered in the cold outside the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
The White House afterward downplayed the remark: "The President's point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region," a White House official said. "He was not discussing Putin's power in Russia, or regime change."
The line was not in Biden's prepared remarks, a separate White House official said.

Or, are we somehow supposed to be okay with what Putins been doing? And give him a pass? Or find some other way to excuse his behavior - what HE HIMSELF started and the wreckage, death, destruction, and ruin HE caused? Were supposed to give him some benefit-of-the-doubt?
I dont see why Bidens statement is supposedly so offensive.

(42,479 posts)They're giving a landing zone to whatever plays out. Pres Biden does not and would not issue such a statement without some ballast behind it. I think his statements this weekend are a very good sign. He is not just playing to Poland's home team so to speak.

he's universally hated..when his gruesome foray in Ukraine comes to an end, he will be isolated, no longer a player on the world stage...no credibility...diminished in stature...he will have nothing to offer...negotiating with an murderous despot is a no-go...

(7,462 posts)is at what cost? Would you or the American people support a war with Russia and possible nuclear involvement? I think not but once it happens there is no turning back.
The only people that can change the leadership of Russia are Russians.

(1,095 posts)to the Russian people to rid themselves of that albatross.
Putin has inserted himself into the politics of other countries - ours included. And Biden's comments need to be walked back now why? For fear of hurting a war criminal's feelings? Not so much.
No need to pretend that it was such an outrageous thing to say. Most of the world is of that opinion right now.

(1,855 posts)the world is incredibly unsafe while he remains in power. I'll add to that -
I believe that it's inevitable we will see some kind of nuclear weapons used sooner or later (if) he
remains in power. He's a fucking nutcase playing 'chickin' with the world.
So, yeah he has to go.

(7,462 posts)the remaining EU countries to make sanctions even more devastating. Use diplomacy and whatever means necessary to convince China to stay neutral and ONLY escalate the war as a last resort. No matter how "immoral" or "unethical" some would like to think our not getting involved will be the alternative is FAR FAR worse. The idea that anyone can win a possible Nuclear war is insanity.
