The People's Convoy plans to leave Hagerstown Speedway to protest bills in California

The People's Convoy encamped at Hagerstown Speedway for the past three weeks is leaving to return to California, at least temporarily, organizer Mike Landis announced Sunday night. ... The group has used the speedway as a staging area for nearly daily trips by a parade of big rigs, cars and campers to the Washington, D.C., area to protest mandates meant to control COVID-19 and seek a repeal of the pandemic state of emergency.
During a livestream of its nightly rally Sunday, Landis read off a list of strict COVID-control measures that he said were pending in California. ... "These 10 bills that I just read are up for a vote next week in California," he said. "To me, they are the reason that we are here. ... "I think stopping those is more important at this point in time than getting the emergency declaration repealed because that's already in place and we need to stop stuff like these bills from getting in place," Landis said, "otherwise, the rest of us that don't live in California are going to end up subject to the same situation."
Landis did not announce a timetable for the group's departure from the speedway, but invited willing participants to convoy at 6 a.m. Monday to a rally in Harrisburg, Pa., and said "then we're going to start packing up and heading west." ... He hinted that the group might return. ... "We're not done here," Landis said. "We'll go to California and raise awareness along the way and hopefully get more people like we did on our way here. ... "And then, once we stop this, we'll come back to finish this job." ... The crowd cheered Landis' announcement and no one spoke up when he asked if there were any objections.
{snip}
General Manager Lisa Plessinger said Wednesday that having the group in the main part of the facility hadn't been a problem while the speedway was still closed for the season, but the convoy had to move everything to a roughly equal-sized space at the other side of the speedway that wasn't needed just yet to make room for Saturday's season-opening race. ... She said convoy would also have to occupy that space to accommodate a race scheduled for April 2 if it didn't find an alternate location to move to by then. ... The convoy was required to vacate the facility entirely by April 7, Plessinger said, so the speedway staff would have time to prepare for when the entire 56-acre facility is needed for the Lucas Oil Late Models race scheduled for April 9.

The Peoples Convoy bivouacked at the Hagerstown Speedway for the past few weeks is now making a different kind of move besides its almost daily caravan of big rigs, campers and cars running to the nation's capital to protest mandates meant to control COVID-19.
The entire encampment has to vacate the part of the speedway it has occupied since March 3 to make way for Saturdays first race of the season, and it must leave the facility entirely by April 7, speedway General Manager Lisa Plessinger said Wednesday.
The group began moving Wednesday to another part of the speedway that wont interfere with the races and plans to stay at the facility until a different base of operations can be found in the area, according to Mike Landis, one of the convoy organizers
Were going to stay here until we find a spot thats suitable for us that we can all agree on, he said in a Wednesday interview with The Herald-Mail, adding that the group was considering locations in Virginia that would have easy access to the Capital Beltway. ... Nothing had been decided Wednesday, and there was no mention of a move to another location during Friday mornings livestreamed meeting of convoy participants.

(21,859 posts)not). Sounds more like a bunch of people who hate wearing masks and such, and getting their COVID shots, when 10s of millions of us have. I don't see 10s of millions of us dropping dead in the streets either. And, when you are in the trucks all alone, enroute to your next destination, w/ no one else there in the truck, take the damn masks off. And gas prices have been high before, why now all of the moaning? No, I see other reasons that they are not stating that is causing these truck drivers their issues. Perhaps not going out and getting paying gigs? Must be nice to be able to just take off, travel all across the Country, protesting along the way, and then back again. Just when do you all work?
If you don't like it (your jobs in trucking), why not do as millions of other Americans do, and find other jobs? What's the hold up?
In the meantime, the rest of us are working.
We're dealing w/ high gas prices by not driving as much. We're not going on trips as much anymore, or if and when we do travel, we consolidate all of the 'little trips' we just to take into one 'big trip' to save on gas.

I've seen it in abusive husbands as well. "You expect me to eat this shit???" Nothing wrong with the food, they just want a fight.

Or how about driving your protest through Compton? If you get to SF, let's see you get up and down those hills, or across the Bay bridge. CA is way bigger than you think, and LA is freaking huge.. The CPD will ticket your asses for anything they can come up with. Or maybe you will get the bright idea to blockade PCH up the coast.
BTW, first you have to get your rigs over the CO mountains, so I hope Mr. Koch will give you enough money to cover fuel food and breakdowns along the way.

Seeing as there was just a snow squall emergency alert, plus hail and freezing temps this weekend, March in Maryland is also a winner alongside the beltway.

Try this one. I-70 runs through Maryland from north of Hancock to Baltimore. It's the Interstate that the truckers would take were they to head east from Hagerstown toward Frederick, which is on the way to DC. At Frederick, I-270 splits off from I-70. I-70 heads east to Baltimore, and I-270 heads southeast to DC.
Cameras By Route from I-70 at PA Line to I-695 at I-70
I-70 East at South Mountain is a good choice
Cameras By Route from I-270 at I-70 to I-270 at I-495. This is the big enchilada. Any camera on that stretch will work.

Check the camera at I-70 at Mount Phillip Rd. at the tab labeled "Cameras By Route from I-70 at PA Line to I-695 at I-70." The convoy has made it that far at 11:45 a.m.
