Russia's top independent newspaper suspends publication
Source: The Hill
Russia's top independent newspaper is suspending publication after receiving two warnings from Russia's media and telecommunications watchdog, Roskomnadzor.
The second one, issued on Monday, threatened to close the outlet or rescind its license, according to The New York Times.
The notices are in line with a crackdown in Russia on all media in the country that stray from the line of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has sought to completely control the narrative on his invasion of Ukraine.
The Times reported that Novaya Gazeta's suspension means zero new organizations critical of the Kremlin are operating in the country.

(35,296 posts)Take a "what I saw in Kherson" article from Saturday or Sunday.
Started off interviewing people that said things like "we haven't had a steward over the country in 30 years--just thieves that stole everything. You--your Putin--how long's he been there? ... 22 years?" Take away was approval of Putin (a tad ambiguous, though).
Then it moved to a display of heroes that fought in Donbass. Somebody had painted "murderers" on them and they were being cleaned. Discussion of perceptions.
Then it went to protests. Against the Russians. Bombings in Kherson as the Russians approached.
By the end it discussed the lack of food and medicines, and the urgent need for them. Russian soldiers: "The Ukrainians are blockading them." Russian "commandant" saying that they have them, they're on their way. Then Ukrainians saying they had no shortfall prior to the Russians.
Then about Russians, with all the Russophones speaking Russian and saying that they hadn't been genocided.
Then a discussion about how the Ukrainians were expected to fold early on, but were fighting--and protests weren't just 30 or 40 people, but hundreds of people. And most in Kherson want the Russians gone.
With the local military boss saying they weren't going anywhere, they'd eventually see that it was for the best.
Not flattering.
