Attorney General Who Killed a Man Manages to Dodge Impeachment
Source: Daily Beast
Jason Ravnsborg is now not likely to face any consequences after a special investigative committee of the South Dakota House of Representative voted against his impeachment.
More than a year and a half after he ran down and killed a man, South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg may be done with facing any consequences.
A special investigative committee of the South Dakota House of Representatives emerged from a closed-door meeting Monday to recommend against impeaching Ravnsborg. It would have been the first impeachment trial in the states 133-year history.
According to a 22-page report released early Monday evening, there was not sufficient grounds to remove Ravnsborg from office. A special investigative committee voted 6-2 against recommending impeachment, with six Republicans voting no, and the two Democrats favoring it. Committee chair Spencer Gosch did not vote.
The Select Committee finds under a clear and convincing standard that Attorney General Ravnsborg did not commit misdemeanor in office, as he committed no crime or other wrongful act involving moral turpitude by virtue or authority of his office, according to the report.
The full House, which Republicans control 62-8, will convene on April 12 to decide if it will accept the report.

Looks like killing someone while driving drunk is A-OK with South Dakota Republicans if you're the state's FUCKING ATTORNEY GENERAL.

(17,145 posts)Anytime an R gets in trouble for anything and Rs have to vote on their guilt or innocence they will never
find fault or wrong doing, but Ds are always guilty. Jan 6th planners are an excellent example.

(2,825 posts)According to republicans, democrats should be locked up. Even in the absence of a crime. No worries, they'll just conjure one up for good measure.
Republicans are a delusional mess suffering from mass borderline personality disorder.

I think that is why they kept Ravnsborg around. She wanted him to resign over the accident/death, he refused... useful tools...

How about escaping a DWI manslaughter charge by virtue of his office? Can other state resident DWI's get the same deal? The crime is in failing to throw the book at this drunk!

(94,330 posts)Impeachment is not a legal matter, it's a political one, relating to someone's behavior IN OFFICE. If he committed a crime, he's subject to prosecution. If the State Constitution doesn't require resignation on conviction of a crime, there's no appropriate role for Impeachment as a substitute.
Case in point: Democrats in the House never attempted to Impeach Trump for his private tax and business activities.

But...
However, in 2010, District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana Judge Thomas Porteous was removed from office after he was found guilty on four articles of impeachment stemming from charges that he had accepted bribes, used a false name to elude creditors and intentionally misled the Senate during his confirmation hearings all actions which occurred prior to his appointment to the federal bench.

It used to be the normal stuff...cheating on your wife or taxes. But I guess murder is OK with them now, too.
