...................
The former president called the phone of a Republican senator, Mike Lee, with a number recorded as 202-395-0000, a placeholder number that shows up when a call is incoming from a number of White House department phones, the sources said.
The number corresponds to an official White House phone and the call was placed by Donald Trump himself, which means the call should have been recorded in the internal presidential call log that was turned over to the House select committee investigating the Capitol attack.
Trumps call to Lee was reported at the time, as well as its omission from the call log, by the Washington Post and CBS. But the origin of the call as coming from an official White House phone, which has not been previously reported, raises the prospect of tampering or deletion by Trump White House officials.
It also appears to mark perhaps the most serious violation of the Presidential Record Act the statute that mandates preservation of White House records pertaining to a presidents official duties by the Trump White House concerning January 6 records to date......................

The charges keep piling up. up and up.
SCOOP: Trump used an official White House phone with a 202-390 prefix to call Sen. Mike Lee on Jan. 6 which means it should have been in the presidential call log but was not, raising prospect of tampering. @GuardianUS

Trumps call was not recorded in the presidential daily diary or the call log a problem bc even though the daily diary entries are discretionary, per current and former White House officials, the call log is not. https://theguardian.com/us-news/2022/m

(14,164 posts)And telling him the gun was just recovered from a shooting incident on 5th avenue. The DOJ is all ready to start its investigation towards a conviction until its revealed it was Trump who was the alleged shooter.
Obama refused to allow his AG to procecute BushCo. for lying about WMD, about NSA illegal blanket spying on Americans, war profiteering, etc.... because he and Democratic leadership thought it best to "move forward"
So what comes from that is we get an even more proliferate liar in the next R President. Over 30,000 documented lies. Ending in a whopper he still spreads to this day about mass election fraud.
And once again, by the DOJ's non-action, its clear we are being told to "move forward".
And please no more of the Garland is just playing a 5 dimensional chess game. That's what many said with Obama's AG too. It seems more like a Democratic party edict left over from another era. To leave former presidents alone, no matter how serious the offence. That the political backlash will be too great, even if the long term well being of the country will be compromised.
America is setting itself up for the next R President who will no doubt understand even better how much he can get away with lies of the most dangerous kind and know he will never have to atone for them.

(45 posts)Part of what separates the left from the right in terms of politics, is the ability to call out our own leaders when they make mistakes.
The most admirable political figures are human, and thus capable of making poor decisions from time to time.
Understanding that, and demanding better isn't an attack on our political side, its whats necessary to strengthen us as a whole.

(2,006 posts)in 2022. If the repukes win congress and can further advance their stranglehold in state legislatures by the time we get to 2024 they could very well could render the executive branch moot. If they win they'll stop all investigations, try and appoint dipshit as speaker, try and impeach Biden 17 times, maybe successfully, try and limit the executive branch's power and basically turn us into a parliamentary run democracy with a big shift in power to the states Gov's and legislatures. They are only 3 or 4 states away from fucking with the Constitution. Yeah thats far fetched but so was fuckwad getting elected in 2016. This November is 1k times more important than 2024 imho.

(3,354 posts)But thats all they will do. There was a DU post the other day that Biden should fire Garland for not doing his job. But then someone else posted that Biden had been heard to comment after he got into office that he wanted to just move forward. If true, this democracy is about done.

(4,168 posts)than something that is a bombshell. They glaringly lack the intelligence to ask some basic starting questions and get the answers. I posted this on a friend's blog today and I'll add it here now.
"Our media of course is too stupid to pose basic questions and try to get answers. Such as "1. How are the White House phone logs maintained? 2. Are they on paper or computer or both? 3. Who is the person who makes the log entries? 4. Who has access to the logs? 5. How/where are the logs filed/preserved in keeping with the Presidential Record Keeping Act? 6. Can the logs be edited? 7. If so by whom?"
So what we get instead is a report of the gap and then talking head "experts" doing everything except providing answers about the basics. If they would establish the basics then we would have a foundation of understanding the "system" such as it was and who should be hauled in front of the committee (Heaven knows it would be a waste to expect Garland to react) and asked questions including whether anybody (Meadows is my guess) told the people responsible for the log entries to halt their work. Also they could be asked about anybody asking them to edit the logs etc.
