Man who parked weapons near Capitol on 1/6 gets prison

Source: AP

An Alabama man who parked a pickup truck filled with weapons and Molotov cocktail components near the U.S. Capitol on the day of last year's riot was sentenced Friday to nearly four years in prison.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said she still hasn't heard an explanation for why Lonnie Leroy Coffman had “almost a small armory in his truck, ready to do battle.” She sentenced Coffman to three years and 10 months in prison, giving him credit for the more than one year he already has served since his arrest.

Coffman, 72, of Falkville, Alabama, said he never intended to hurt anybody or destroy any property. He said he drove to Washington alone “to try to discover just how true and secure was the (2020 presidential) election.”

“If I had any idea that things would turn out like they did, I would have stayed home,” he wrote in a handwritten letter to the judge.

i think those were them. i think their plans were to have weapons they could pick up or have delivered by others once they took over the capitol and those phone numbers were probably for getting the message out once they got hunkered down..... to call for reinforcements?

were those numbers the talk radio show regular numbers or the direct numbers that people from US and russian think tanks use........? the investigators should figure that out

Going to D.C. on recon to ascertain how fair and true the election was does not require all the weaponry to go to war.

She wasn't going to have any BS from this seditionist.

Yeah, he never intended to harm anybody! What garbage! Why would he bring an arsenal if he didn't intend to use it?

Good for the judge and for our country!

She gave him some prison. I believe an attempted terrorist attack with murder toys I a bi weapons district to supply other attackers, deserve much more time.
I am sitting here waiting for Graham, Cruz, Cotton, and Hawley to be screeching and Howling about WEAK on CRIME, like the two female Howling Monkeys at the SOTU.
I guess this Judge would never be approved to a Supreme Court by GQP for her weak sentencing on terrorism.

Well boo-hoo to you, too, Lonnie. “He said he drove to Washington alone 'to try to discover just how true and secure was the (2020 presidential) election'.”

To "try to discover" with a fucking "small armory in his trunk, ready to do battle"??? Like his weapons were going to be asking questions and collecting facts...

What a goon! Sorry the judge only gave him three-plus years with credit for one year served. Shoulda given him TEN YEARS AT LEAST!!!

Riiiiight, because having a truck and carrying a handgun, a rifle, a shotgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a crossbow, machetes, a stun gun and a cooler containing eleven [Molotov cocktails] means you never intended to hurt or damage anything or anyone.

When Coffman parked his truck a few blocks from the Capitol on the morning of Jan. 6, it contained a handgun, a rifle, a shotgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a crossbow, machetes, a stun gun and a cooler containing eleven mason jars with holes punched in the lids, according to prosecutors. Each jar contained a mixture of gasoline and Styrofoam, which are components of the homemade incendiary devices called Molotov cocktails, prosecutors said.
